    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Why is one main jet different?

I just bought an '82 GS1100G and am going through the bike getting her on the road. It isn't running yet. All stock, including exhaust and airbox. I want to keep it that way.

When cleaning the Mikuni carbs, I found three 115 main jets and one 110 jet but I don't know which carb it was on. Pilots are stamped 40, air jets are 170.

1. Is there a reason someone would jet it like this?
2. If I should make them all the same, should I go with 110 or 115? BassCliff says 110 is stock.

Generally they are all the same. but some large CC bikes (like 1150) will have the two inner cyl 1 step richer due to the extra heat. I think it is the only one that came stock that way.

Also a popular change is to step up one step to over come the lean EPA driven OE settings. If yours was 110 stock, and you are at 115 that is two steps. If you are running a K&N filter in the box, that would account for the double step. Any other modifications to intake or exhaust?
 
No other mods are apparent. Uni foam air filter inside the stock airbox. Stock pipes.

I found an old set of 110's so I can put it back together with 110's for now so I am not waiting for jets in the mail. That way I can at least get it running so I can continue with the repairs.

I did notice the air mix screws were all out 3.25 turns. That seemed a bit much to me. I am thinking around 2 turns to begin with?
