A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a National Cycle windscreen that was mounted on the '81 GS1100E I just bought and it has some tape or sticker residue as well as some surface scuffs I'd like to clean up before I list it for sale. I've never had a plastic windscreen so I'm just looking for some tips as to what will take the residue off without messing up the screen and what will work on the scuffs. Thanks...here's a pic:

WD-40 works good for adhesive residue removal. Plastic can be polished with a small palm sized DA and polishing compound. They make plastic polish which works well but I think you can use just about any fine grit compound. Some guys even use toothpaste.

About the tape residue, I have no experience on plastic windshield, but on glass the most effective for getting dried up adhesive is engine starter fluid. That stuff turned the old hard dried up adhesive from old sun baked state park stickers into a soft goo that came off real easy. ALthough I hesitite to ussee that on plastic, but dont really know.

For buffing the fine scratches, I would say the typical plastic cleaner might have too heavy a grit in it for windscreen. FOr windscreen I have had good success with Meguiars PlastiX, available in many auto parts stores, has picture of car headlight on the label.

shopping

Bought my National Plexifairing used late last fall, looked as good as new. The PO said he was using a cleaner made for the flexible plastic windows that are sewed into vinyl tops for boats. I'm rather leery of wiping it with anything at this point although I've made it far enough south to where I'm hitting bugs now and the high pressure car wash wand is going to get harder to find as I start heading into dryer country later this week

Steve, got the Novus 3pt kit today, good results on the scuffs, good old WD40 worked nice on the tape crud...thank you!
