A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I had to open up my wiring to find a short (80-gs850gl), to which i did. But in doing so i had to cut the heavy plastic over they put over the wires most of which fell apart in my hands due to age and heat. :( Now i am ready to tie the wiring back up, but worried about the heat coming from the engine melting the coating on the wires. what should i wrap them in? Is electrical tape enough? :?:
thanks for you help in pa. Cj

You can get 3M tape that you stretch until it goes from black to grey and it will melt itself together over the wiring. I personally detest electrical tape, it falls off and gets all messy. You can also get corogated loom to put around the wiring.

Cheers, Steve

I 2th the 3m tape electrical tape will quickly come apart

Re: wire covering???

The best thing I have found that is readily available, inexpensive and easy to use is electrical tape (buy the good stuff) and liquid electrical tape. I wrap the wires tightly in two layers of electrical tape and then brush two coats of liquid electrical tape over that. Allow the first coat of liquid to dry before applying the 2nd. It will not unravel, is reasonably resistant to heat and is waterproof (or at least very water resistant) It can be a bit messy to apply, but what the heck. If youre working on a bike, you probably dont care if you get your hands dirty anyway. :-)

For splices or spot repairs, I use heat shrink tubing and seal the ends with liquid electrical tape.

I re-wrapped several sections of my harness with 3M electrical tape. After 4 years, everything's fine. No un-ravelling, no problems due to engine heat, etc. You do need to wrap it carefully and use the right amount of "pull". Be aware that some brands of tape are cheap and the results will not be as good.
