    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wire identification?

I took the headlight off of my 1983 GS1100G to replace the bulb. As I was pulling the assembly out, a wire that I believe was tucked into the black sheathing of the headlight wires popped out. I don't believe it was plugged into anything there, but I don't know. There are 3 open connections inside...

Black w/ White stripe, exposed male connector on end.
2 Black w/ White stripe, insulated female connector on end.
2 Brown, insulated female on end.

The brown wires tested 12+ with key on. The black wires didn't test anything, nor did they test continuity even though they are same colors.

Wondering if the male was supposed to be connected to the female? Any help would be great! Thanks!

You have done a wonderful job of detailing the situation, but have you looked at the wiring diagram in your service manual yet? Pretty sure the brown is an accessory wire (which shouldn't have anything attached unless you have accessories), and the black/white wires are grounds. Based on the info provided, it's not possible for us to judge if you need to plug up those grounds anywhere because we don't know where they are coming from. Maybe check the turn signals to see that the grounds are all properly hooked up?
 
Thanks Ed. I just found the diagram with a Google search. Looks like you are right. Brown is accessory and the black/white is the ground. The 2 female connectors appear to be there for ease of adding anything on. I'll check out the turn signals. Running lights came on with key on.

I'm betting you pulled the ground connector apart when you opened the housing. That may indicate the black with white stripe grounds were either not plugged together properly or the connector needs to be tightened up so it doesn't come loose again. The brown wire is not usually used as stated, however the first thing you should always do is investigate and find out where the wires go and a wiring diagram is necessary to figure it out. A google search is good, but don't forget to search this forum if you want GS information. There are countless references here to Basscliff's amazing website, and you can download a full factory Suzuki service manual for your bike for free there, which has the wiring diagram.

Single black/white was the turn signal ground. I plugged it back in to a 2 input female terminal where the other side ground was plugged into. All squared away now. I've downloaded the manuals from BassCliff's site. Thanks again!
