DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have been working on a 1979 gs1000e. It has had an electrical fire and was butchered back together by someone who didnt know what they were doing. Nearly every plug on the harness was cut off and lots of things were wired together that werent suppost to be. I have it patched together good enough to make sure it was going to run. I am to the poiont where I am trying to prepair it for the road and either need to rewire the bike completly or buy a new wireing harness. Which will be the cheepest and which will be the easiest? Is there any aftermarket harness out there? I am not in restoreing it to its orginal glory, but just makeing it a dependable, cheep, ratrod freestyle custum. Thanks foir any and all help.

I might have a decent wiring harness.
I have several from GS1000s various years.

New wiring harnesses don't exist anymore. At least none that I can find. A used one is the way to go. I purchased one off fleabay and completely removed the wrapping and replaced any wires and/or connectors that looked worn or damaged. After thoroughly cleaning all of the connectors, it will be replaced back into the bike with a great deal of confidence. All of the bullet connectors are available as well as the narrow and wide blade connectors.

I have a harness from a 80 GS750E and a 82 GS850GL.
Both in really good shape.

Would love to sell ya one of em but I'll tell ya from experience that if the harness is not exactly specified for your exact model you're gonna have to do some mods.

I'd look for a clean used harness. A harness from an early 750 might work but I'd stay away from anything with self canceling turn signals although even that could be worked out if necessary.

For my 1000S I adapted a harness for a 1000G. It was a lot of work but seems to be working well so far.

Edit: found several harnesses on ebay. Do a search on "GS1000 harness". Here is one for a reasonable price... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979...s?hash=item35a368e94f&_trksid=p4506.m20.l1116

I'll second this seller because he's the provider of mine. He shipped it immediately and the harness was in better shape than his description. If someone on the board can't provide one, try him.

new one from 78 750

new one from 78 750

Not sure if this will help but I bought a new one last year for a 78 GS750 EC. Here is the number. 36610-45005 Got it from flatout which is now www.partshark.com

Cost 133. Last year it was $116. Mine was all messed up so it was worth it to me to just get a new one. Might want to compare electrical diagrams and see.

Best wishes....
