A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

After getting my carbs back together (minus the correct pilot air jets) i hooked the battery from my javelin up to my bike and started her up.

Except, it didn't. It blew the main fuse right after hitting the starter. Or the turn signals. Or putting the side stand up/down. Ok, it didn't do that when i bought it and rode it around the block a few times right before storing it for the winter. I figure i just loosened a ground somewhere and decide to start pulling all the connections and cleaning them with CRC electrical connection cleaner. After all that it takes longer to blow the main, but doesn't solve anything.

Being the eagle eye, i notice afterward that the harness looks odd AFTER all that work. Turns out that the PO moved the r/r ground to the battery and did SOMETHING with the stator and r/r which ended up with him wrapping everything in duct tape, changing to spade connectors and making everything quite messy.

So, after taking a box cutter to all those pounds of electrical tape i pull the stator to find how it looks:

So basically it seems i'm in for a new r/r, stator and wiring harness?

I only have a few hundred miles on it, and the electrical gearheads here might howl at the expense (they love being elbow deep in wiring), but the $150.00 I spent on a new harness is right up there with the best money I have put in my bike.

Found the p/n for the 82, manual says it's the same wiring as the 83.

flatout lists 36610-49500for about $150, will grab it from them unless i find a nice used one first.

I am almost certain I have a brand spankin new wiring harness for an 83 Gs1100 ED in my parts box that I paid about that for. Pm me if you're interested and I will check and verify the part number, but I'm pretty sure I have the one you need. Can offer you a deal you cant pass up. LOL

Edit........
just checked, the part number is 36610.499201. Thats a harness for a 1980 GS 1100E

Your going to love how much beefier the Honda RR I sent you is compared to that tonka toy RR Suzuki used. Best part is the mount holes are the same distance so it mounts in the factory location.\\:D/

I've seen BassCliff's side by side picture. Kinda makes you wonder just how much faster the honda unit dissipates heat.

40.00 delivered, best deal in the bike world. i ship the next day. PM for payment details.

They actually run cooler. The Suzuki will burn your hand if you touch it, probably contributes to their death. The Honda is almost twice as big.

duneage, i'll definitely be buying one of those as soon as i get me one of those fancy paycheck thingys...
