A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i blew bast my buddy today in 3rd gear wot...shifted at 9k 3rd an 4th....he said it was smoking...not bad but noticeable...but only under that high rpm or when i let out..cruising it wont smoke at all...rarely it will smoke at start up...but i figured cold morning was causing that...

smoke was white/blue..or grey..i was told i didnt see it

so uh...does it need head work?..no clue if the bike has ever had any..or is it normal...

81 850, 4-1 header- 120 main jets (rest stock)

Hi babes. If you suspect piston rings then a compression test is the best way to check...
Check normally, then squirt a small amount ov oil into the pot and try again...
If the readings are really different, its ya oil rings.
Hope that helps some.

Either your running rich on the main jet or there is some oil getting past the rings. Compression may be fine and the oil rings can seep.
Can you live with it? Are your plugs fouling?

Its most likely just carbon/soot buildup in the exhaust pipes.
Happens when you get it way up in the RPMs, and the blow the crap out.:p
If your friend is following you, he should be able to tell you if it smells like oil, or soot, or Rich Combustion.
Note: Rich Combustion can be scented from behind with a mild Throttle Up.

I put a pipe on a bike that had been on a blown motor.
You want SMOKE?
:D

Was that the one from the cooked 1170?
Yup
When I put the yellow banana motor in my L. The motor I had Aluminum weeping through the valves from the pistons.
I ran the motor with a rigged ignition and just a sidewinder header so I knew it didn't smoke but it did with that Kerker pipe! BIG TIME!

Like stated earlier it is probably just that the main jets are too large and it is running too rich at WOT.

ah ok..dunno what this pipe came off..other then a parted out 850..

i recall him sayin it smelled a bit rich at one time i think..but yes i can live with it smoking

Take the vent hose off and see if there is a lot of oil residue in it. If not then you should be fine.
