TGSR Bike Of The Month
1977 Suzuki GS550
Owner: Don Clifton
A Note From The Owner
I bought my 1977 GS550B in 2007. It had a few engine problems so I pulled it down, split crankcases, etc. and installed a 650 top end on it with a 1mm overbore which made it just under 700cc. It produces approx. 80hp. It also has dual Honda Fireblade front discs and Kawasaki twin piston calipers and a Kawasaki ZX10 front master cylinder with S/S braided brake lines. It has progressive front springs fitted. It also has a Dyna S ignition in place of the points and condensers. The bike has been completely rewired, and has a GS650 RH switch and Yamaha XJ650 LH switch. It has GS650 BS CV32SS carbs adapted to a GS550 air box and air cleaner.
I have only done about 2,000 miles since rebuild, and it is a fantastic bike to ride, it handles really well with lots of power and a joy to ride on all types of roads. I prefer the back roads with plenty of curves and twisties best.
Thanks to everyone on the GSR that has assisted with advice and also the tutorials provided.
