Digital Caliper for $16

I'm a mechanical engineer and generally don't waste money on cheap tools. Bought a set of these calipers recently and feel they are a very good value. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=47257

Comes with an extra battery which is a bonus. Compared them to a standard which came with a micrometer I own and they are spot on. Good stuff for a great price.

I have a one of those calipers, and it is a good product. Bought it from Ace Hardware for about $23.

If I had known it was also sold by Harbor Freight I probably wouldn't have bought it though. Gawd that place has some real crap.

Yup, Harbor Freight is hit or miss. Most of the stuff is from China and some is good and some is crap.

I have some venier calipers purchased from them about 18 years ago that are still going strong. Very accurate and the ways are still tight and solid - no slop what so ever. I've seen other measuring tools they sell though that I wouldn't trust them to measure my toilet. Very hit or miss. These calipers are some of the good ones I think.

I bought a set of those calipers from Harbor Freight and they're great. Very helpful for fabrication etc. on my GS project.

They were good a few years ago when they were $6 too.
Accurate enough for most work I do, lasts a long time so far. I've dropped it, left it outside, other abuses with no worries.
On my second battery after four or so years.
And Harbor Fright is great as long as you can check it out before you buy, the quality of most of the Cheap Chinese stuff sold there is way better than just a few years ago, 10 times better than the Cheap Chinese stuff sold in the U.K. for 10 times the price.

I actually use a lot of their hand tools professionally and I've had zero problems with them. The wrench sets they sell are CHEAP and a good value... don't buy the cheapest set but if you get the $20 metric or SAE full polish sets you'll be happy. I'm a big fan of their gear wrenches too, nice action and they can take the torque for sure. Like all the tools they sell the wrenches have a lifetime warranty.
I'm also a big fan of the $20 18v impact driver with charger and and batt. A little heavier and nosier than my Makita yes, but 1/4 the price and just as powerful. [Edit] I'm not sure where I got those numbers from... the 18v impact was $50 and the makita was around $200. Still 1/4 the price though and works like a charm.[/Edit]

I have these calipers as well. I think they they are very accurate as well. Here is a video of them in action, when I was measuring my needles to find the taper on them. I found these really handy for measuring the carb od and id on my stock carbs and intake boots and also on the smooth bores i have. Use it all the time.

I've got 'em too. Used 'em to measure valve shims and it made the job lots easier/more accurate.

Mega-dittos -- I've had a set of these for a few years, and they're great for measuring shims. Nice not to have to convert from inches to mm. And they've stayed accurate over time.

I've bought 10 of these calipers for the monkeys that I employ in my shop to abuse. I can honestly say that only one has ever failed and that was because it was left on a welding bench and the plastic melted
