So I call FLATOUT today ..

.. to see if I could get a tracking number for some parts that I ordered online end of last week for my upcoming fork rebuild.

I called the number listed on the confirmation email.

Begin explaining to the gentleman what I was wanting when he quickly interrupted me saying that indeed my parts had shipped.

After a second of silence, I asked how he may know that as I had not identified myself to him yet. ..

He fumbled for a moment and then asked my name.

Shortly .. he referred me to another phone number and I got the tracking number.

Hope the parts arrive by the end of the week

Standard UPS and USPS shipping is usually overnight from Indianapolis to Kentucky. It might take another day if you really live out in the sticks.

In these cases, the package often outruns the tracking info.

I don't know if Flat Out is still using &^%$#@!! furshlugginger "signature required" delivery. This has created a huge pain in the rear for a few people who didn't read all the disclosures before ordering. I hope they're getting rid of this outdated and completely pointless requirement.

Good point .. I had it shipped to work so someone can sign for it without me being there.

Checked a bit ago and it has been scanned for departure. .. it's looking up

I ordered a lot of little things (on 3/22), so maybe they had to wait for some to come in.

          Bandit vs Flatout

On 3/20 I ordered stuff from Bike Bandit (feeler gauges), Flatout (Front break switch parts and a Suzuki hat), RonAyers.com (valve shim tool), ebay (torque wrench), Widder ('Lectric Glove warranty issue), and AtlantaLuggage.com (luggage parts). I know...busy day. Makes me tired just thinking about it.

Anyway, I've received EVERYTHING, including a FREE pair of gloves from Widder, EXCEPT the Flatout order. In addition, not that I'm complaining, all the other suppliers provided feedback along the way as to what to expect. Flatout on the other hand provided one email confirming my order and has not bothered to send any additional information OR respond to my email asking for an update.

Guess I should call them and ask them personally over the phone to get a response.

Now, to be reasonable, it has not even been 2 weeks yet. That is not very long. However, I needed some more parts today (shims, gaskets, oil filter, etc, etc...total $80+) . Who do you think I used? The folks who sent my stuff quick and communicated all along the way or the folks who have not completed my first order and who have not answered my email?

Anyway, I didn't start this to complain, but I saw this thread and it made me think. Who knows, my stuff from Flatout might show up tomorrow. If so, I'll probably still order stuff I want quick from BikeBandit. Lesson learned.

          Best wishes,
          gbw

IMO you would have been even better served still should you have gone to Z1 for most of this second order. Ive ordered numerous times from Z1, and have yet to wait longer than 4 days for it, provided it wasnt on back order, which i have only had ONE item, some shims that they ran out of stock on, be back ordered. Not saying BikeBandit isnt bad, on the contrary, I have used them on numerous occassions as well, but they seem to be a little slower to ship. Maybe just me.

              I don't work for flatout

And the more time they spend on someone else's order the less time they would spend on mine , but you can save yourself some aggravation by simply checking the on line status which includes the tracking information provided.

You know...I thought about that. As I troll the forums most days instead of work (don't tell my boss) I end up seeing BassCliff's welcome message quite often. He recommends a few including Z1. The problem I had, and this might just be me, is that I had a hard time finding the parts I wanted.

Bike Bandit and Flatout have that cool parts look up tool with the pictures and part numbers and stuff. I didn't see that at Z1. I dug around a little trying to figure it out and just gave up and ordered from Bike Bandit.

I'll try Z1 again b/c they are good to GSR, but I might need some help finding what I want on the site.

Thanks for the reply and the suggestions.

I will certainly admit that the Z1 site is for some things a little tougher to navigate than the others (especially for things like valve shims if you've never gone there for them before) I'd be happy to point out anything to you that youd like however They are not only good to us folks here on the GSR, but they are genuinely good people. Ive actually spoken to a couple of them on the phone for some stuff that they dont really list on the site, but will be happy to point you the way, if they cant get it themselves. If they had EVERYTHING one could possibly want for on our GSs, i'd use them exclusively, but as far as general upkeep and repair parts, they're who i go to the most.

Well now Mr. Kid...I might just take you up on that.

Not sure what my next purchase will be, but it can't be to far off. I'm only on the valve shims and I've already spent $$$. I have not even taken the carbs off yet! I'm sure there will be another order in my immediate future (unless my wife sees the credit card bill)

Maybe once I get the hang of the site I'll be able to offer them more patronage.

                    Goodnight,

I recently ordered from several of the common sources. Flat Out and Alphasports both do a pretty poor job of keeping you informed. I alled both on the same day to see what wasgoing on, and they bolth had already shipped. Flat out gave me the tracking number over the phone, and the ship notification email arrived the next day. That's the day after the package arrived. They really need to get that email out when it ships, not two days later.

And yes, Flat Out did require a signature. I don't know if that has to do with the size of the order or not.

I've had good luck with bike bandit, they just seem to take forever to process an order. Placed an order o nthe 28th, still "in progress".

Instant gratification just isn't what it used to be.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Flatout is the way to go IF you want to save money, and IF you're not in a hurry for your parts. You could probably find pros & cons at any business. Flatout has a lot more going for them than not.

A lot of people around here are taking BassCliff's "recommendations" as gospel. Now don't get me wrong, I admire his passion & enthusiasm. =D> But his is just one opinion, and only that. Problem is, a respectable business gets a poor reputation as a result.

Flatout still can't be beat when it comes to prices. And when it comes to customer support, Flatout is the ONLY parts supplier that has a member on this forum. I wish that bit of news would make headlines around here. His name is Chris, and he is Chris@flatout. You should contact him by phone at the Greenwood store. He is their internet sales department.

Yes flatout is slower, and yes they have that stupid signature rule. ](*,) Personally, I plan ahead and take delivery at the office. I would not hesitate to go elsewhere if I was in a hurry. But for the most part, I'll stick with flatout.

                        Of course...that's just my opinion.:-\"

Unless I order a 10K diamond online (not likely) I always specify in the order that "items are to be left at the door, if no one answers".
If they don't want to comply with that, I order elswhere.

Well .. from the time of my phone call .. it was around 18 hours later that the parts arrived in my building.

I will have to say, that except for the first guy who answered the call, I am satisfied.
