    Airtech Fiberglass

Normally I do not get into posting negitive feedback, but I Just spent $280 on a "street" upper fairing, and a left mid panel for my '87 GSXR 750, and after 5 weeks of waiting, I finally get the items, and they are absolute garbage compared to my originals. The surface finish quality is acceptable, HOWEVER, the thickness of the fiberglass is paper thin compared to the OEM composite pieces. The Airtech upper fairing is about 1/2" narrower than my original, which would make mounting this fairing a REAL PIA and ultimately stressing out and possibly cracking the fairing. The mid panel is close in fitment, and "could" be made to work, however there are NO mounting points to mount the GSXR OEM extra mid panel mouldings. So If you have a race beater GSXR the Airtech components will suffice, but If you are trying to OEM restore bodywork like me, forget about Airtech !

To be fair, the airtech website states plainly there are no mounting tabs on their products and most of the stuff is designed in fact for the track. I don't think I would go to them for reproduction/restoration quality pieces.

However Clam, you might check out Bliss-Star (do a search). From my understanding not only do they make replacement quality body work, but they also make GP and superbike reproduction bodywork done up in sponsor paint and everything. What's more is their made in china. So it's retarded cheap. I just read an article about a gent who did his Ducati up in era reproduction Suberbike bodywork for around $350.

FYI Nationals Fiberglass's work is 10x better then airtech, no website as far as i can tell but he has a ton of molds. Good heavy duty thick fiberglass fairings.

airtech is high quality/light weight racing glass.
thick and heavy is not good for racers.
        apples and oranges folks.

Airtech is not stock replacement body work, it is designed for race bikes and is very light weight. I have airtech fairings on one of my race bikes and it is very durable it has been in a couple crashes on the track [1 highside] and had sustained very minimal damage compared to the rest of the stuff on the bike. So to be fair if you are looking for OEM quality then you need to find OEM parts not track designed replacements

The this critical detail should be spelled out so that uneducated customers such as myself will not be misled into thinking the Airtech quality is comprabable and compatable with OEM.

If you read my original post I clearly said " the Airtech bodywork will suffice for a race bike"

Here, i'd like you all to read the exact description of the Airtech GSXR bodywork:

Quote: This is a direct replacement fairing. Simply drill the mounting holes and mount onto your chassis.

This comment is false. Like I commented the Airtech fairing is 1/2" too narrow compared to my OEM and while I can FORCE it into correct position to be mounted, now the fairing is bulged at the sides, and will certainly become stress cracked.

Yea, I know i'm crying sour grapes, but it's me and not you who just spent $280, and have two useless pieces of body panels. Trust me if you were in my shoes you would be pi$$ed as well. Thank god for Ebay to try and recoup some dough. Bottom line , i'm at fault for NOT ASKING THE QUESTIONS when I placed my order...

If the offer what they call a "street fairing" then it should be of OEM quality or greater. only the "race fairing" should be made to the specs that your fairing is made to. thanks for posting this i will be going the meier for fiberglass should i need it in the future. i have used them before for my 89 gsx750f and was pleased with there quality

                hmmm,
unless something has changed with maier...
                maier is ABS plastic....not fiberglass.

maier is pretty good over all but if i wanted OEM fitting parts i would have bought used OEM parts..even repaired OEM parts.
the 1st gen gixxer stuff is around used..i stumble upon it sometimes.
i have a gixxer 750 airtech body on my koenig pro-mod chassis drag bike.
nice and light and has developed the typical star and stress cracks.

Meier is NO better ! My buddy who sold me the bike has a brand new in the bag Meier fairing, and same situation, much thinner in material (and yes the Meier is a composite plastic). The Meier edge body lines will NOT match up to the OEM body lines ! So again, Meier will suffice for race only bodywork...

I bought a Kawasaki Z1R fiberglass fairing from Airtech a year back and I have no complaints. Quite the contrary. The mold was so excellent I even doubted it was fiberglass. It was molded in two halfs that were then put together to form one (the outside one piece, the inside one piece). Very well made.

Other fiberglass parts I've ordered from other companies have been not so great and as you described, thin and flimsy.

The fairing is not 100% like the original. But then again, no remolding is.

And as mentioned, Airtech specialises in race-fairings first and foremost. It's not intended as a bolt-on replacement. Most of their products need mounts fabricated in order to fit properly.
