    Stocker's Motorcycle Salvage

Let me tell you about the completely wonderful service that I have received from Stocker's Motorcycle Salvage in Chula Vista California (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH STOCKERS STARTERS). If some of you have had positive dealings with them, I can only tell you that from what I have read in reviews, many have not.

On July 6th, I ordered a gas tank for my 1982 GS650GLZ from this company. While placing the order, the person taking the order told me to look for a receipt for the purchased item in an e-mail that would be sent to me. Having not received this e-mail, I called this company on July 12th to inquire as to the status of the order; to the credit of Stocker's, the e-mail was immediately sent.

While on the phone, I was informed that the tank was on the dock, ready to be shipped (mind you, this was on the 12th), and that I could expect it in about 7-9 days depending on the shipping speed. So I figured that I would receive the tank on or around the 21st of July. You could probably imagine my surprise when I received an e-mail generated from UPS on the 21st that the package was sent that day. I don't know about you, but on the dock ready to be shipped does not mean it will take 9 days to be shipped; nor could: "you should be receiving it in 7-9 days" be construed to mean: "we will ship it in 9 days."

Anyway, I receive the tank on July 27th, and find out it is the wrong tank (in their defense, and mine, there are a couple of GL models, Z and X, I was sent the on for the X, but needed one from a Z). I don't them you for that.

After speaking with manager Steve Smith on the phone, I sent the tank back the next day (July 28th); I even sent pictures of my old tank in comparison to the tank they had sent me, at the request of Mr. Smith in order to expedite the locating of the proper one; I sent these via e-mail, as well as placed copies in the box with the returned tank. On August 4th, the tank was delivered to this business (I have a confirmation from USPS).

Expecting to eventually hear something from them concerning the tank, I waited until the 9th of August, and sent an e-mail, which was never answered (apparently if I initially want some part, I will get an answer to e-mails, but if I haven't received a part yet, that's another story). When I didn't hear from them, I called on the 11th and was informed by Mr. Smith that they ordered the tank from another shop a week and a half prior and that I could expect it any time, since they were going to ship it directly to me. I'm thinking, that since it was ordered on or about the second of August (or perhaps the end of July, since that would have fit into the time frame given to me), that surely I would have the tank on or around the following week; wrong.

So I waited until the 25th of August, and wrote another e-mail; actually, I sent 2, the first one was not answered, the second was, which informed me that Mr. Smith would check on this (by the way, I included my home and cell numbers, and asked him to call me in regards to this problem; apparently, customer's are forced to call them in order to find out the status is of items that they should already have).

Again, not having heard from them, I sent another e-mail on the 26th asking if they had any information regarding my order; and once again, it was not answered. So once again I called (this time on the 27th), and was once again informed that they shipped it, and I should have it shortly.

Well, shortly became a week, so I decided to call again (this time it was on the 2nd of September), to their credit (although as I think about it, I have no reason to believe Mr. Smith), he stated that he called them that day, but could not get a hold of anyone, being a holiday weekend (Labor Day). So he told me that he would call on Tuesday, September 6th to find out what the deal was. Again, I figured since it had been over a month since he had ordered this tank from the other shop, and since I hadn't received it, that he would call me to let me know what the problem was; wrong again.

So, I had to call once more, and in that conversation I was informed that the the company from whom he ordered it screwed up the order, and that I could expect it in 3-5 days (I would like to know how "it's already shipped" becomes "they screwed up the order"). It is now September 12th, and still no tank.

So I e-mailed Steve with a complaint similar in content to this, and was met with a very flippant: "sorry about that, we received the exchange tank on Saturday, and will ship it on Tuesday (Tuesday being their first business day open after the weekend)." I wonder how: "the other shop is sending it directly to you," now becomes: "we will be shipping it to you?!?!?"

Needless to say, I am completely appalled by their service, and their attitude when seeking to find out where my purchased item is. Looking at customer reviews on several web sites, I should not really blame anyone but myself, since the majority of them are negative in content. They can state all they want to regarding the "other company" messing the order up, but the simple fact of the matter is, I did not order it from another company, I ordered it from Stocker's, and they are the ones responsible for the timely shipping and service.

Furthermore, having paid $150 plus $30 shipping, as well as paying $23 in return shipping really chaps my hide, since I figured that I would have this item from a so called "reputable company" in a shorter period of time, and in better condition than I could have had by locating and buying one on e-bay; at that combined amount, I could have had two by now, and I'm sure that at least one of them would have been usable, if not both. Even worse, I contacted one of the forum members, who would have sold me the tank that I needed (I purchased the tank from this company before I got a response from him, shame on me).

If you need a part, please, do not seek to purchase one from this company; you will only receive grief.

I do not hesitate to sign my name to this, since what is written herein is exactly what occurred on my end of this deal

Thanks Lynn, I wouldn't want anyone to mistake the Stocker's Starters with Stocker's Motorcycle Salvage, they are not the same company, not even close.

They have pretty much the only game in town here. I have done face-to-face business with them but I didn't get very good service and they never found the part that I needed despite saying that they had it over the phone.
NO PIC THANKS TO FOTO BUCKET FOR BEING RIDICULOUS

I used to deal face to face with these guys all the time when they were on Market St off of Imperial ave. (80's early 90's) I ran into the "yeah we got it come on down" just to get there and find they didn't have that exact part or couldn't locate it. But on other occasions I found what I was looking for at a reasonable price. Even found some H-2 parts when I owned a Kawasaki triple. They had a massive inventory with parts all over the place, their service was either damn good or p*ss poor depending on who was waiting on you and how busy they were.
