Traxxion Fork Guards for the GS1100E

Once upon a time, most bikes had protection for their precious fork seals, usually gaiters...(You know, the rubber pleated tubes over the exposed fork tube)
Most manufactures got away from that years ago...but after you changed a few leaky fork seals, you wonder, "Why?"

In BMW K-bike community, gaiters and their cousin the fork guard are very popular...before fitting a pair of Traxxion Fork Guards to my K-bike, I checked the fit on my GS1100E...
This week I ordered another set and installed them on the 1100E...

They fit quite well and look quite good, although they are not made for the GS...
The screw is a bit long and I found something better to use around the garage...
Shipping was quick...I ordered on the 19th and received them today, the 22nd.
I will admit they are a little pricey...$24.95, plus $12.78 shipping. But let's face it...if your seals last twice as long, it's worth it.

They look great! I'll have to pick up a set of them for my 850 I think. They mount around the existing rubber boot right? If so I don't imagine there would be any fender clearance issues.

One other question about installation. Do they spread apart wide enough to clear the fork legs without being damaged? Or do you have to slide the forks off the install them?

Yes, the clamp on the dust boot. And yes again, they easily spread apart over the fork tube. No need for disassemble.

Excellent. Thank you for sharing this, I had no ideal such a kit even existed. I like the idea of protecting my new seals, and the rubber gaiters are kinda ugly. I'm ordering my set now

Post up what you think and maybe a pic when you get them on...

Will do. I've been slowly 'adventure-izing' my 850G for an upcoming cross country trip this summer, and these should fit the bill nicely.

I do intend to start a semi-build thread soon. I'll be sure to include loads of pictures.

Bob do you know off hand if they come in larger fork sized ones? The Rex has its own but they snap into the top of the fork. If you install a brace, you can't use em anymore. Wondering if they made them larger, it would be a cure for that?

Josh, you could check their site or call them, but I only saw the one type...

They are pretty flexible so as long as the screw is the right length it would fit a range of sizes. But they are kinda costly just to experiment with.

If you were closer, I'd let you try them...

Do you mean higher? Or more circumference? I think you would need gaiters to protect the whole tube.

I'm thinking of another similar piece mounted just under the lower triple clamp that would overlap the lower piece. When the fork compresses, the overlap would increase. Something like a pair of telescoping tubes, but I'm not envisioning 360° coverage. Not even 180°.

I have the means to experiment with the idea (RepRap). Maybe I'll have something to look at by BC. I have a lot to get done in two months though.

Looking at your E, there may not be room to work it out, unless most of the coverage comes from above.

I've had a set of these on my GS for a while -- same idea, but from a different vendor. And cheaper. Not as tall as Bob's.

My fork guards arrived last week. They were very good with shipping, provided me with a tracking number, as well as an email from their customer service department telling me it had arrived and thanking me for my patronage. They were nice to do business with.

The guards themselves look great, they are very study and seem to be good quality. Will have some time tonight to install them and I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.
