Powersports Plus: Good place to buy OEM & AM parts

While shopping for parts a while back, I found this place. Here is their website:
    Powersports Plus (a/k/a boats.net)

I have transacted about 4 orders with them now.

They sell OEM and AM (aftermarket) parts, and their prices seem pretty decent. You won't pay retail on Suzuki parts.

From what I can tell, they are located in Florida, but my shipments come out of Georgia- a plus for me since the warehouse there is closer to me than the main location in Florida, and I pay no tax.

One huge plus for them is their shipping rates if you just need a few small parts. They still use USPS regular mail. If you need < $10 of parts, the shipping is $1.75- yes, under $2 delivered to your mailbox. I recently lost some parts while rebuilding my carbs, and this saved me some cash. It's literally cheaper than driving 30 miles to the closest dealer with gas @ $4/gallon.

One drawback is finding the parts. It's best if you come onto the site with your part # in hand (or on your computer's clipboard to paste it ). They do offer diagrams but the format is different than most dealer sites- you can find the OEM parts by entering your year/make/model on the front page, and then under "Part Type" click on "Components". This will give you a listing of the OEM categories like the dealers use, and when you click on them, you'll see the regular parts diagram and listing.

Communication is top notch. They email you upon the order being placed, and then when it is shipped. My small carb spacer and an oil fill cap were initially slated to ship on 4/18, but they actually shipped a couple days early.

Just ordered a bunch of parts from this site. The prices were good, and I especially liked the way they used the parts fiche.

Instead of showing you the cost of the part and the number required in one field with a default "1" in the purchase field, the default order amount is set for what you will need. So for piston rings, it gives you the price for one piston's worth, but is set up to order 4 sets (though you can change that). It also checks off that you have ordered the part on the fiche page, which is a big help to avoid losing track of what parts you have in the cart as you scroll up and down the list.

Looking forward to seeing how they do with shipping, etc.

It's not just the o-rings, it's ALL of the petcock parts.

I saw that on a couple of their fiches and take it to mean that the individual parts are not available separately. So $269 is the price of the petcock assembly, including those o-rings, etc. You cannot order the o-rings on their own.

            Interesting observation.

I just checked one of my favorite sites, G&S Suzuki and found the entire petcock for $263.01, and all the various o-rings and other parts available for it with prices ranging from 77 cents to just a few dollars.

I have not done any other shopping at Powersports Plus, but based on this one observation, I am not likely to spend any time doing so, either.

If individual o-rings are ever needed and not available, measure the old ones and go to McMaster-Carr. They sell all sorts of stuff, and for o-rings, you can size them by material, ID, OD, and thickness. I'd suggest using a caliper to measure the old ones if the dimensions are not known. The drawback is you usually have to buy quantity orders, say 10-100 depending on the size, but then you can resell the leftovers to the next guy that needs one.

Using the G&S site, they ID the o-ring as PN 44353-33154 and sell it for $4.32.

The same part # at Powersports Plus is $4.74. I added both to my carts and used a Florida shipping address. Here is what happened next:

              G&S:
In order to keep our prices low G&S has set up a minimal shipping cost that is calculated and automatically added to your cart.

              Parts: $4.32
              Tax: $0.00
              Shipping: $8.00
              Total: $12.32

              Powersports Plus (PSP):
              Parts: $4.74
              Tax: $0.00
              Shipping: $1.75
              Total: $6.49

              I saved $5.83 at PSP

Next, I checked the maximum shipping cost for PSP, it is $20.93 for $200~$250 in merchandise. Over $250 ships free. I then updated the carts to add a $200~$250 item. In this case, the total was $216.00.

              G&S:
              Parts: $216.00
              Shipping: $22.50
              Total: $238.50

              Parts: $216.00
              Shipping: $20.93
              Total $236.93

              I saved $1.57 at PSP.

Powersports Plus for the win (savings) here. Based on this pricing exercise and the great service I've received, I'm unlikely to buy new items anywhere else.

I have not used the G&S site before, but would consider it for OEM parts.

My package from PSP arrived, and everything was in order. Based on their pricing and swift shipping, I will definitely look to them again for OEM parts.

                    August 2013 update

I needed parts to fix my GSX-G. I compared the total cost via Partzilla (the new name of PSP) with the 5% discount code (Google it) and shipping vs Boulevard Suzuki here in Florida, which includes tax & shipping.

The Partzilla total was $212, while the Boulevard total was $186. I read a more recent review of Boulevard in this section, and it loks like the parts issues they had (that caused me to stop shopping there) have been resolved.

Finally, Partzilla has done away with the $1.75 mailing cost for parts under $10.

I can no longer recommend Partzilla.
