    Bilt 'Storm' rain pants

Slow Sunday so I'm taking time to post a review of some pants I bought over the winter. This is the Cycle Gear brand, BiLT. I purchased the BiLT Storm Waterproof Overpants.

Quick review - they leak. You can treat them water repellent, they'll still leak.

They won't leak in a light rain, drizzle, fog or anything like that.

But if you ride in heavy rain, like I do on my commute to work, you will get wet.

These were my first riding pants and I bought them in December strictly for the weather.

They have a liner, knee armor, and seem to be made of fairly tough fabric. They have kept me warm in cold weather.

I thought they were great all through December and in January. Then we got heavy rains in March and April and I got soaked. The rain soaked through the crotch area during a 30 minute commute.

Treating them with water repellent improved their performance somewhat.

But in one recent rainstorm, when I was gearing up to go home from work, I found that so much moisture had collected in the pants that about a cup of water was sloshing around between the liner in one leg.

Anyway, they were about $80 and when most other pants I was looking at were $200, I snapped these up because of the price.

I'll keep them because I always have a change of clothes at work. But when I can I'll try to upgrade to pants that do a better job of protecting the rider from the weather.
