Chuck, there's NO WAY you can justify exploding and badmouthing anyone's work in this part of the forum. The OP was thanking a guy for doing good work on his carbs, and you go off saying how bad his work is. If it isn't your carbs, then keep your yap closed.

Well there youre wrong again JJ..I cant divulge the PMs here as thats my sworn agreement like i said. Now here what I propose. Give me an email to forward the evidence, you see for yourself whether he was or wasnt happy( guess which choice here is the truth ) Hint::: Your assumption isnt!!!!...what do you have to lose? Wnna take me up on it or just sit back and keep saying i am a jerk??

Like i said, i was agreed to keep it off the forum ( PMing included as a forum domain ) so if you wont send me an email then your effectively denying that I got me some backup to show you.

I am gonna do Mike a set of BS 36s. Gonna powder coat the carbs gloss black, have my plater redo the gang rails with new zinc plating, remove all the zinc plated hardware and replace that all with stainless.

Might even think about getting with the guys down at Alimo Plating and see what the cost of a full chromed gang rail set will be!! Do him a set of show stoppers. MY LABOR WILL BE 100% FREE. I will drive them to the appropraite vendors I have and do the internals and all that myself. If I am still on the forum when they are done..or he posts them up you will see them.

            And your point?
That anyone doing carbs for other members should do it for free? That anyone getting carbs done should get them powder coated and plated? That stainless fasteners are somehow better for carburetors?

If they were my carburetors I'd rather have them work correctly than be all shiny on the outside.

None of your above at all....just helpin a member out that all. They can be covered in 20 years of cow crap if thats what turns you on. And yup I am 100% in a agreement that the only thing that counts is they work and work properly and reliably. But when youre spending a bunch of cash to get that bike to the very best looking and as close to factory look to it, then what you use and do is of the utmost importance ALSO...would you not agree with that aspect as well??

Chuck, if you're after the factory finish you should go paint and re-zinc. The grommet counters can spot non-original stainless etc a mile off. I suppose you know that anyway so I'm just tossing it in.

If you're after a smart finish (rather than factory original) then in my opinion stainless is the way to go but I would still prefer paint over powdercoat on carbs - I think you lose all the detail with the thickness of PC.

His relay to me is that he wants as close to factory as far as the compnent being the right color and finish..BUT with some little added bling here and there..which of course he will have the final decisions. I have thrown him several scenarios and we are PMing back and forth. I can suggest things and he can mull it over and get his visualization and you take the next step. Of course as we have talked about, finding a viable set is kinda hard. There is 1 new NOS carb body on Ebay at an asking price of $150.00 for just one body!!

Yes powdwer coat does soften the raised letters and such as I well am aware. So can the wrong paint, wrong thickness of the paint as well. If you paint in a dead still area with light dustings over and over again to let it build out you can control the paint thickness much better ..least i find that so. Also another thing is to have the common sense to know when your just at the point that enough is enough and know to STOP!!!

Yep - a thin layer of paint is key to getting close to factory; I sometimes think a tin of paint with the lid off paraded down Hamamatsu high street was considered job done back then.

You have no idea how many times I have started over because i added that " one last shot" which immediately turned the otherwise sweet effect straight to crap! Has taken me countless waste hours and materials to finall learn that its not the speed that you can do it that counts..its the stopping doing it that counts..If you follow me .

Since these aren't the correct carbs for that bike anyway, obsessing over the accuracy of the finish seems a tad pointless, no?
