Another thumbs up for Robert Barr. My O-ring kit arrived today and looks great. Now I just have to figure out how to get the carbs off the bike without destroying anything else. That's a tight fit!

The total delivery time was two weeks, one week for the bank draft to get to Robert and one week for the O-rings to get back to me. That's not too bad when the Canadian border and Canada Post get between the buyer and seller.

Yup Robert is a peach. He provides a great service for us and without his help so many more GSs would not be running.

As far as getting the carbs out there is a wee bit of an art to it. The first thing is to get the airbox (if you have it), off the carbs and as far back as you can. This likely will require removing the battery.

Once this is sorted and with leaving the throttle and choke cables in position, push downward on the carbs to pop them lose of the boots. Slide the carbs out from the right side and remove the cables to free them up.

Do the reverse to get them back in. On installation, you will find it easiest if you lubricate the mouths of the carb boots with WD or silicon spray and warm them up with a heat gun or hairdryer to make them pliable. Insert at about 45 deg angle and pull/push up and forward. I find it helps to use a pry bar or piece of wood as a lever to push them forward. Brace the lever against the rear engine mount and push forward.

Alternatively, you can wrap a ratchet strap around the carbs and the head and ratchet them back into the boots.

The first time can be challenging but from then on, its a piece of ****.
