quick release helmet buckel
Does anyone have any good reviews for a "GOOD" quality quick release buckel for my helmet strap? Don't know where to post this, but I'm looking for a "good" quick release buckel for my helmet strap. All I'm finding is the cheep-O's hanging on the wall at the bike shops & on e-bay. What I'm wanting is a "GOOD, QUALITY" quick release, like the ones that were factory installed on the 2 BMW helmets, I had back in the early 80"s. Shuberth made those helmets, but they won't sell the buckels seperately, you must buy the complete helmet to get their buckel. May be a good idea for Donald Trump or Bill Gates, but for me, a little tooo expensive. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Rick P.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. Can't help you with your search, but I will say that any type of quick-release buckle is not for me.
When my sister wrecked several years ago, she was wearing a Nolan modular helmet (that is the flip-front style). One side of the chin bar broke off and the quick-release buckle failed. The only reason her helmet did not come off was because it was wedged between her head and the post that stopped her slide.
There might be better-quality hardware available, but for now, my personal choice is to avoid modular helmets and quick-release buckles.

I imagine some folks get bad ol' fingers and can no longer do the doubleD-ring thing, so a "good Fast-release" is a good thread. Can you find a picture of what you had?
I found this http://www.sierrabmwonline.com/produ...s-500016-p-408
Me? There isn't a better system than DoubleD...yet, because it takes up so little length versus buckles. And is therefore comfortable. Using bigger D's might help. Otherwise, I might make one using the buckles from a lifejacket or climbing- gear harness for some guarantee of quality, though 8.95 from that link doesn't seem awful steep! It just looks too long to be comfortable....

I've tried a couple of the quick release strap kits over the years. With in a month I went back to the Double D rings. Had one helmet that had the quick release on it, kept pinching my neck all the time when I would go to snap it on. Used the helmet for target practice.sigpicMrBill Been a GSR member on and off since April 2002

Thanks, but not exactly what I wanted to hear. No pics of my old quick releases, they've been gone for years. Maybe I'll keep watch for an old Beemer helmet for cheap, that may still have them in tact. thanks1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. Yes, that one is the typical one like is hanging beside the check-out. I baught one of them, installed it, went for a day's ride, came home, & took it off. It's nothing like the old Beemer ones I had back in the 80's. Thanks anyway1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw.
