Ask vendor shipping method. If USPS, consider requesting insurance and signature req

Ask vendor shipping method. If USPS, consider requesting insurance and signature required.

Word of experience from the school of hard knocks….

I placed a larger order with and shipping method was not specified. I was wrong thinking a few hundred $ order would be UPS/FedEx insured or at least signature required. It was shipped via USPS Priority Mail, left on my porch, and stolen while I was out of town. Regular USPS priority mail has an unclear insurance process and (at least my) post office was of little help.

Luckily I ordered from a trusted vendor who properly solved what could have been an awkward situation. A lower class vendor could have been “Shows delivered on the tracking, sorry” and I would be out of luck.

Sounds to me like you need to move to a better neighborhood.

We prefer people use UPS as their tracking is real tracking. UPS also has a feature called 'My Choice' where you can redirect a package, or get it held for pickup at their hub.

Here's a link to the UPS page explaining it:
      My Choice

While it is possible to get insurance on a USPS package, I strongly suggest to avoid this. First, it is disproportionally too expensive for the risk, and second, if you've ever attempted to file a claim, you know why you don't want to do this... the USPS insurance claims group in St Louis must have special recruiting rules to only select the most obnoxious and incapable people.

Actually it is a nice neighborhood, but that is what the thieves know too.

Too bad that the shipment probably just ended up in a dumpster somewhere since I don't see the easy money thieves taking the time posting the various Suzuki part numbers on craigslist (I've checked) Though the invoice showed value so who knows. I'll still check periodically.
