Good Ultrasonic Cleaner?

I'm getting ****ed off because these units are 30% cheaper than I paid just a month or so back. Oh well.

I have no idea why anyone would try to clean a bank of carbs that are assembled. There is no way for the solution to get to where it's needed if you do that. Not to mention the various O-rings are going to be hard and brittle regardless so the carbs need to come apart anyway to change them.

I bought one last year, very inexpensive. I was not happy with the results and ended up finishing the set the old fashioned way. The carbs didn't look any cleaner, just a dark grey, which is not a great look.

Disassembly is much easier without the grunge all over them.

The first set I did with simple green turned out dark grey, then I put it in plain water and all the grey melted off quickly. The carbs are super clean now

Will soapy water or the simple green pro get the varnished fuel out of parts like the float bowls, jets, etc.? If not, what would I use in an ultrasonic cleaner like these units?

This stuff was recommended to me but haven't actually used it yet so can't comment. Next couple of weeks and I'll know how good it is...

I can report that water with dish soap worked in my case. Here's the relevant post in my rebuild thread: Clicky. Note that today I keep the solution temp at around 50°C and am bit more liberal with the amount of dish soap.

Several GSers have purchased this EBay Ultrasonic Cleaner. Based on your experiences would you buy it again or suggest something else?

I have the 3L version of that ultrasonic and I've finally found something that doesn't make the carbs darken.

I used distilled water from Walmart, about $2.00 for 4 liters and mixed Franks Special Cleaner 40:1 and it worked really well.

Cleaned out the nastiest sticky dried fuel and stabilizer residue and varnish in about 2 hours at 50 degrees Celsius.

Here's the unit I have, a before and after shot.











The one on the right has had 2 hours the other one just 30 mins or so as I pulled them out to remove the valve needles and seat with some heat after they cleaned up a bit.



I also put the jets into clean up a little, they are much cleaner than before but could use some more time or a brass cleaner product to brighten them up a little.

My chinese cheepie 6L ultrasonic died. It alternates between being quite quiet and making a screeching noise. The solution looks still so don't think there is any shaking going on or at least not much.

The one I built to replace my high-end cleaner that broke is still going strong for over 5 years. I use it a lot as well. What did you end up doing with your el-cheapo?

After posting the above I tried it again and the shrieking noise has stopped and it seems to be working okay. Not very confidence inspiring. Not sure if it's okay or junk.
