It was like running into an old friend
The first GS I’ve seen in the 4.5 years I’ve lived in Hawaii! The owner is not a forum member. He bought it here and fixed it up a bit, maintaining original parts except upgrading to electronic ignition, a custom but matching seat, and a 1980’s gauge cluster to have a fuel level indicator. Considering he found it withering away on an island it’s in pretty good shape! You do not have permission to view this gallery.

As far as I know the 79 had a fuel gauge, at least mine does.
However, it's perfectly possible a front-end smash could have resulted in mine being fitted with a later cluster, or the one in your pic might have been fitted with an earlier gauge set from a 750 or something.
In the event that something drastic happened to mine, the 80 tank may have been fitted, too.
Ach, who knows what befell these things in the hands of POs.---- Dave

You may be right - he said the wiring and tank were setup for the fuel gauge, so maybe the PPO had swapped the cluster.
It was cool to see. I think about an old Suzuki from time to time but I really have no capacity for one. Just swapping a shock on my Street Triple is apparently more than I’m willing to do these days.
