New member : 1981 GS1000G Aftermarket exhaust advice

    Hello
    Great website.
I would like to fit a set of 4 into 1 aftermarket pipes to my 81' GS1000G, as originals seem almost impossible to find. Delkevik advise they do not advertise a 4 into 1 for the G model as there is interference between the brake pedal and collector.
I would appreciate anyone's experience with this problem or information on other exhaust manufacturers who do a system for the G model.
    Thanks

There are members here that have used the Delkevic on G series bikes. Salty_Monk being one, on his 1100G. It can be made to work, but you may need to fuss with muffler hanger points and a center stand stop. But, don't trust my memory, though, search here for more info...

Gosh I love those paint jobs that other parts of the world got, on the 850 & 1000G's, ours, in the U.S. was sooo plain and bland compared to theirs. Great looking bike and good luck with the exhaust... Oh yeah, Welcome

Same frame as the 850 and my Delko with the megaphone fits but I had to make a short securing strap, drilled at just the right place to fit into the original exhaust hanger hole in the rear extension sub-frame. It's quite secure.
The other option is just buy the downpipes from Delko and use another silencer. I made a Hardly one fit to start with, but the hanger strap was a totally different affair to the megaphone one.

Delkevic makes good systems but don't trust their fitment guide. They build them for specific models and don't trial fit on others. Have you looked at the MAC systems. I believe this is what mine is - used Ebay purchase listed for a "Suzuki" - and the slip-on sit's a little lower in the rear. It is dimpled where the brake pedal pivot is so I could clock the slip-on.

          Pic for reference.

Thanks for the information all. The odd OEM exhaust has come up for other models. Are the 850,1000 and 1100G all compatible re the head and frame?
rphillips, this paint job is actually aftermarket. The fella I bought the bike from in 1990 had put a full Ninja fairing on with this scheme. Unfortunately I damaged the fairing, hence there being no headlight or front indicators. I have found most of what I need on Z1.

Well Piers, like I said, I like your paint. I just went back through past BOTM pictures and found relatively similar paint schemes in Oct 23, Aug 23, June 20, were 1000G's and April 09 was an 850G. Not sure, just figured OEM. All, for me, much better than we had over here.... Form reading these folks ideas, you'll have exhaust situated relatively easy.... Keep us updated.

                Hi Piers

I have recently fitted a Delkevik 4 into 1 on my 1980 GS1000G. The rear brake pedal was close to the collector, but I modified the muffler bracket to lower the overall system by about 1.5 centimetres. The brakes are freshly overhauled, bled and pedal lock-stop adjusted. I have acceptable clearance between the brake pedal and collector.
