    '83 gs 100G

I am very happy with my '81 gs850, but have a chance to buy a gs 1100G I would like to find out the availability of spare's ie base & head gaskets etc. I would have to sell my gs to buy it, then do the usual, like stator braided brake lines, & it's been sitting since '99. It does run OK.

To check parts availability, go to Partzilla, or similar, and look. You can take the part number to ebay and search there also.

Generally speaking, most parts you may need can be found. Those bikes have a tendency of eat the rear wheel spline, and sometimes (rare, but not unheard of) the secondary gear set in the back of the engine. Parts are available to fix these issues, so nothing tragic. If the bike has more than 20k miles, the rear spline is likely already fixed.

Other than the shape of the seat, the 1100G is superior to the 850G in every way.

The difference in midrange roll on power is pretty remarkable.

I liked the ergonomics of the 1980 1000G better than the 1982 1100G but it was still a great bike. (I like the Ergos of the 1100E 16v even less and the 1100L even less than that…)
I may well have some gaskets and such left over. I think you can get everything as long as you are ok with aftermarket in some cases.

Are you sure? "The 1100G is superior to the 850G in every way". Back when I bought my new 1980 GS1000G, best I remember the only place the GS1000G was superior was in the HP (GS850G 78HP vs GS1000G 90HP), I's thinking everything else was the same, other than the GS1000 eng. was appx. 5 lb. heavier. Size, shape, suspension, seat height, tire size, I's thinking were the same, but being 45 yrs. ago, I sure could have forgot. Also things could have changed in 1981.

Yeah if they are both 82/83's then basically the only difference is engine size. I like the Ergo's of the older ones.
