It looks like that 100 miles to the south of Dave. Most of the snow in in the driveway and my street, haven't seen a plow. I just got the ECU back for the C14 today after the newest Shoodaben flash (Google it) and I am anxious to see if it has tamed the Snatchys. Very hard to be smooth up to this point.sigpic

Today was a pretty nice day to ride. I took the warm temp for granted here in the city though and should have worn another layer or two. Still a great ride but when the sun went down the shivers started.
I headed West this time toward Grants and stopped in at the El Malpais National Monument visitors center. They were so friendly and helpful, pulling out maps and giving info on the roads around the monument. Per their suggestion I took exit 81 at Grants and an immediate right on Zuni Canyon road. I thought I had a residential street at first then wound up in a beautiful canyon. The rock walls resembled marbled cake, I thought.
The paved road turned to packed gravel. Smaller atv roads and forest service roads were a plenty! I went down a few of those and just really enjoyed the area. Nobody else was on the road either so it was nice.
I wound up taking one forest/ ATV road after another and pretty soon came up with another name for this place, the FakamI land because I kept saying to myself where the FakamI? Boy, I should really get a GPS!
I started a little stampede and hung back while they moved off into the distance.
Eventually I wound up at highway 53 and took it back towards Grants where I enjoyed a quick cup of coffee before hitting I 40 for an 85 mile ride home. The KLR did wonderfully on the gravel, dirt, and the freeway where it was a steady 80 mph all the way home. This is when I regretted leaving the long undies at home. The balaclava sure is nice though.
There's so many more places to see. All of the color changes visible from the satellite indicate very interesting terrain and rock formations. I found some terrific places to camp for a weekend of exploring.

Went for a run out on the 850 yesterday, forgot to mount my camera, It quickly got dark, I got cold from being underdressed, it started to rain and me with my open face helmet on. Meanwhile fuel was still dripping from carb No. 3 and the gear lever was shaking itself loose.
Had a great time!!!!

Nice pics Roger. Yeah, the shivers suck when they can be prevented. I only used a back back and tank bag when I was riding.

Also, what do you use to mount your camera? I have a GoPro but haven't decided whether to stick a mounting plate to the fairing on the bikes or on my helmet somewhere. I just think the added drag on a helmet would tweak my neck and would look real funny. The vibration on the fairing concerns me that it would not be watchable footage and the camera may not stay aligned.

i was chest deep in water pushing since the battery decided to take a crap. that entire water hole was about 6 inches deep with hard pack bottom, except that one spot.... it was a fun day, Abby and I went walking through trails looking for animals, while her mom (my gf) was too scared to walk through the cold water lol
