Not that much of a ride.
        25 miles up to Muskegon.
Swung by the beach to stop for a pic of beach and light on the breakwater.

And along the river channel, found a view back down to the pier and lighthouse.

And found way to brewery/coffeeshop downtown.

As I said, not a lot of miles, but was good to get out and go someplace that havent been for a while.

Condition is a little better each day. It's still going to be next year before I can ride again, I think. Safely anyway. I think I need to set a rule for myself that I need to be strong enough to pick it up in case of a tip over. I'm a long way from that.

I've been trying to sell the Biffer all year with no luck. So today I put a permit on it and went for a good ride to fully warm everything up and get the fluids flowing. Well I start out and the bike feels fantastic up to the corner, nice clutch, nice trans, good wind protection. I start thinking maybe I should keep it. However I hit a few corners and it just doesn't feel as good as the 43 year old 1100, On the GS I think where I want to be and the bike is there, this one is hoping all over and changing direction too quick for me (even with the EZ dialed as harsh as it can be dialed). Then I'm all cramped up on the Honda too, kind of like sitting in my wifes crazy little Mercedes. So that was a good ride, I'm still going to sell it and revert back to another Bandit. I was starting to doubt my wanting to sell it but a long ride is what it takes to choose a good bike. hindu.jpg

              50 miles from home.

              cruising highway speed.

              engine just cuts out.

              no sputtering.

All indication on dash good as far as I know. Cranks but not restart, only a slight sputter.

had over 1/4th tank, showed 100+ miles remaining.

              2009 R1200RT

              72k miles

              had 24k service early spring.

not too happy with tow truck tie down procedure but that’s a different story

              IMG_3811.thumb.jpeg.af014b9a82b7e48eca90cd6e784bcb71.jpeg

Picture to show was on its way to dealer.

Other story is : with AMA roadside service are suppose to have specific vehical VIN already registered. I thought I did, but they didn’t see any. But, anyway.

Good news is that daughterInLaw was happening to be passing thru there shortly, so I got a ride home.

My suspicion is ignition related the way it cut out without any sputtering.
but maybe fuel pump or the pressurized tubing in the tank (I know that was problem on 1150rt anyway)

              ……
Above is what I posted on a BMW forum(BMWST), and I asked “who wants to Guess what the dealer is gonna diagnose…..? See what comments I get.

Dern beemer….. I don’t even have the experience to know to get the Tupperware off, let alone diagnose anything.
Now the GK, that I know what to suspect, but…. Am loosing desire to work on.

              >>Later edit - clarification.

WHEN I left home the guage said 1/4th and about 100 miles. ANd destination was 40 miles, so said I would fill up there.
But, I didnt go directly there . . . . and I wasnt paying attention to the gas guage . . . and when it just quit, it did still show some level, like one bar, no low alarm.
So I can use the excuse that didnt get any low alarm, but trurth is: I wasnt paying attention.
Other excuse is: when it quit, it quit abruptly, didnt sputter so didnt seem to me like out-of-gas.

I intend to discuss that with AMA Roadside Service (which is not really operated by AMA, is a contracted service).

Who wants to guess the problem this time?? - Hexheads - BMWSportTouring

Short version: biggest suspect is fuel guage lie to me and really did run out of fuel.
Other detail: Replacing what we would call the sender (beemer lingo: fuel strip) approaching $700.

Present plan: me start useing trip meter more (digital, fumble thru menu of functions, havent used much) for need of gas stop..... and observe fuel gauge function just to see what it does, but not rely on it for fuel stops. Isnt any Reserve petcock. Maybe guage just doesnt go much below 1/4th any more (used to, then get light, then flashing light).
Later plan: Maybe might get fuel strip replaced during other service when tupperware already off.

Other secondary plan: Concider what other bike better fits my (our) needs. THis dern thing, even though is a factory low, is still tall and heavy and I dont feel comfortable anymore with wife riding with me (and other obvious factors about that situation that is no polite way of describing).
