I'm merely quoting what the cc class emphasizes. When in a high stress situation there are plenty of options for a bad outcome. Personally, I think the officer was wrong to ask.

I generally don't carry a pistol out of state. NY are pretty tough and usually if you cross state lines it needs to be completely disassembled. I do carry a survival/hunting knife mainly just because it's a great tool to have. Fixed blade Ka-Bar BK2. Awesome knife.
