If the request was to watch the back door and let the officers know if anyone came out, there shouldn't have been any reason for a confrontation. And if someone did come out and insisted on attacking the observer, he's allowed to defend himself.

If it came to that, I think the police officer who made the request would be the one in hot water for putting a citizen in that position.

Possibly all true. I'm not a lawyer, however you don't need to be tried in a criminal court to be put in legal jeopardy.

I'm merely quoting what the cc class emphasizes. When in a high stress situation there are plenty of options for a bad outcome. Personally, I think the officer was wrong to ask.

I can't really conceal and carry with my current pistol (.45ACP Taurus PT 24/7 Pro) I'm looking a for a little 9mm I'm really in love with the Kimber Micro 9 Desert night. http://www.kimberamerica.com/micro-9-desert-night-dn-1/

I generally don't carry a pistol out of state. NY are pretty tough and usually if you cross state lines it needs to be completely disassembled. I do carry a survival/hunting knife mainly just because it's a great tool to have. Fixed blade Ka-Bar BK2. Awesome knife.

Amen to that! I bought a Kimber Stainless Target II in 45ACP a couple of years ago, and have put several hundred rounds through it. It's an awesome handgun. Definitely not for concealed carry, but I don't carry, anyway.

They're a bit on the pricey side (I paid a little over $1100 for mine, brand new), but to me, well worth it.
