Personally, I'd rather have a well cared-for higher mileage FZ1 than one with 25K of thrashing. Not all miles are equal.

I know what to look for in general wear and tear - it's not my first rodeo. I was wondering if anyone had experience with higher mileage FZ1's as far as engine longevity, etc.
      Current:
Z1300A5 Locomotive (swapped my Intruder for it), GS450 Cafe Project (might never finish it....), XT500 Commuter (I know - it's a Yamaha )

      Past:
      VL1500 Intruder (swapped for Z1300), ZX9R Streetfighter (lets face it - too fast....), 1984 GSX750EF, 1984 GSX1100EF (AKA GS1150)
And a bunch of other crap Yamahas....

FYI - just did a bit of trolling on some FZ1 forums and there seem to be quite a few people who have clocked up 120K+ miles still on the original cam chain and tensioner without any dramas.

That's my major concern really - everything else like running gear, etc I can see what condition it's in.

I put over 50K on mine and it never missed a beat. I was a member of the FZ1OA for years. A few folks there have over 150K on 'em.

When I first started getting into the motorcycle trade game I was taught is about the general condition of the machine vs miles... I've seen bikes with less than 20K miles in far worse shapes than examples with over 50K miles... Maintenance and general care go a long way with motorcycles.

My FZ1 had 73K miles when I retired it and sold it for what I paid for it...

Never heard of a timing chain fail in 18 years of FZ1OA membership.

Small number of abused bikes have bad second gear popping out. Rare. Look for failed fork seals to weed out the wheelie wanna bees.

Mine uses about 8 oz of oil every 2500 miles still better than some new cars.

Suspension and better seat and a price under $2500 are all you need worry about.
Big miles there!!! Testament to how great a bike it is if you still are riding it with that many miles.

I did experience a blown rear wheel bearing around 65K miles. I rode in the winter and I think the salt was the catalyst in it's failure...

I personally would LOVE to have a FZ1 but I can only fit so many bikes, for now. The Bandit is very sentimental and I'm getting to the point where I want to settle down with a few bikes for a few years.... We will see.

Hope it works out! the FZ1 is a phenomenal bike...
