Picked up a couple of new GS’

I don’t post much here. Usually lurk and read. In fact I rarely log in.
I sold my gs850 to a friend after getting it running.

Couple of months back I picked up a 99 gsxf600 katana. Certainly not he main focus of this group but it traces its roots back to the early 80’s GS bikes. I bought it sight unseen but had a friend check it out. Well. Big mistake. Friend said it needed tires, chain sprockets. Maintenance. Ect.
Well he failed to mention the leaking carbs and the fact it went down on both sides damaging both engine covers. Choke cable non existent. Air filter gone and for some odd reason the previous owner screwed a plastic sheet over the air filter housing effectively stopping all air above 2200 rpm. But it was cheap. So. I will not step on my friends neck until he is quiet. But to salvage this ride I needed a parts bike. Picked up an 03 600 for $200 with a salvaged title and nearly every part I need for my 99. What a plastic jig saw puzzle. It should make a good sport tourer for my son.

About a month later I was perusing craigslist and came across the gsx750 about 15 minutes from me. No title barn find. I wasn’t keen on it until he dropped the price. So I called him and found out it’s a Gsx750ef fully faired bike and he has all the fairings. Fully faired 83/84 bike? Well guess I need to have it. It runs - sorta. Needs carb clean and it’s missing the instrument panel. Someone cut a hole in the fairing for a Speedo.

I have ten bikes right now. I put the Gsx750ef on eBay but I am thinking I may keep it. I’d hate to part it out. I have started the bonded title process for it and it looks like I can get one. What’s the groups consensus on this bike? It’s no 83 katana 1100 for sure but I can’t say I’ve seen a lot of them.

Think the bike is worth restoring ? This one would have to be a labor of love.

Depends on your intent. They are cool bikes, but resale is typically low on them, and you will most likely lose money if you're looking to flip it.
If you're looking for a nice rider, save it and enjoy.

I like the old Yoshimura system on there. They are getting to be a tough find...

        To add.
Since you're not here much, there have been two semi recent restoration threads of that bike on here. Sandy's is spectacular, and jsandidge's is ongoing.

In the States the GS(X) 750 was only made one year. They decreased the displacement to 700 to avoid tarrifs, as did the other Japanese makers. 3rd generation of the 750 I think. Like Dorkburger said if you want to ride and keep it, it is well worth it. That full faring I don't think was available in the States. Very rare if it was, I'd guess. Fix'er up!

What you have is not actually an EF model but probably the ES with the lower Lockhart fairing kit. The stock EF fairing covered the ignition cover while the Lockhart had the cover sticking through. They're actually quite a nice motorcycle to ride but be careful what you put into it as even really nice ones aren't worth a lot of money.

What is the process for getting a title for an old bike with NO TITLE ?

Is it worth doing ? - Have you been through it before ?

Just wondering - I have passed on a few cheap bike resto-mods because the title issue

I don't live in Wisconsin and have never done this but a quick check of your state's DMV website shows they do have a process for this and also a process for titling homemade motorcycles is that doesn't work out. Good luck.

That’s the gist of it. You need a lot of info. If you’re info is different compared to their info you may not get a title. In the end if it’s not stolen they just want your $75
