I sold my gs850 to a friend after getting it running.
Couple of months back I picked up a 99 gsxf600 katana. Certainly not he main focus of this group but it traces its roots back to the early 80’s GS bikes. I bought it sight unseen but had a friend check it out. Well. Big mistake. Friend said it needed tires,chain sprockets. Maintenance. Ect.
Well he failed to mention the leaking carbs and the fact it went down on both sides damaging both engine covers. Choke cable non existent. Air filter gone and for some odd reason the previous owner screwed a plastic sheet over the air filter housing effectively stopping all air above 2200 rpm. But it was cheap. So. I will not step on my friends neck until he is quiet. But to salvage this ride I needed a parts bike. Picked up an 03 600 for $200 with a salvaged title and nearly every part I need for my 99. What a plastic jig saw puzzle. It should make a good sport tourer for my son.
About a month later I was perusing craigslist and came across the gsx750 about 15 minutes from me. No title barn find. I wasn’t keen on it until he dropped the price. So I called him and found out it’s a Gsx750ef fully faired bike and he has all the fairings. Fully faired 83/84 bike? Well guess I need to have it. It runs - sorta. Needs carb clean and it’s missing the instrument panel. Someone cut a hole in the fairing for a Speedo.
I have ten bikes right now. I put the Gsx750ef on eBay but I am thinking I may keep it. I’d hate to part it out. I have started the bonded title process for it and it looks like I can get one. What’s the groups consensus on this bike? It’s no 83 katana 1100 for sure but I can’t say I’ve seen a lot of them.
