Does stock 1980 GS1000 exhaust baffle come out?

Does stock 1980 GS1000 exhaust baffle come out?
Something started rattling in the right side muffler. Would like to attempt a quick fix if there is a chance it might work. Does anyone know if I cut the back out with a hole saw does the baffle come out? I see online videos where guys remove baffles this way but can't find an example with an older GS. If I can get it out maybe I can do a repair and weld it back in - even if its just temporary. Thanks.Tags: None

Stock pipes are all welded, there is no easy way to remove and/or replace baffles.
I have seen suggestions to find the exact spot where it rattles, then bang around it with a rubber mallet or use a block of wood and a bigger hammer to possibly re-shape the outer shell to stop the rattling.

Thanks for the responses. Thought I was set for the summer but looks likes another project has materialized. All of the used exhaust systems I see on ebay appear in worse shape than mine. May as well solve it for the long-term. Seems the best option would be to cut both mufflers off and weld on replacements. Anyone have any advice on mufflers as close to stock as possible (from a baffle/pressure standpoint). Everything I see online appears to be of the open/aggressive type.

Envision the pipe running from the Y all the way to the hole out the muffler. This is how they are inside. THE BAFFLES are oressed directly into this solid one piece of ipipe, the outer shells put on and its all welded together. What has happened to your is the pipe has rusted through at one row if the bent in baffles. In other words it basically done forMY BIKES..1977 GS 750 B, 1978 GS 1000 C (X2)

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.

These are Sito replacement silencers, they have the Y piece built in. All you do to fit them is cut at the weld joint on pipes 2 & 3. Marving do the same silencers. I can recommend both types, they are made in Italy.
