    Engine number

    Hi folks, I have a gs750 engine,#85100 is there a way to find out what year this is,I figure it's a fairly late motor.

    Here you go - looks like it's a '79.

    79 GS1000S
    79 GS1000S (another one)
    80 GSX750
    80 GS550
    80 CB650 cafe racer
    75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
    75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

      According to HH's list, I would agree that it's likely a '79 engine.

      Does it have round covers over the ends of the cams or rectangular covers?
      Round ones would be for the 8-valve engines, which ended in '79.

      The starting engine number for the '80 models was 100097,
      and it would have been a 16-valve engine with rectangular cam end covers.
