    oil temp gauge options for GS1000

    Hey Guys,

    Are any of you running any type of oil temp gauges on your 1978 1000. I have seen the dip stick temp gauges and have ran those on dirtbikes, but they do not represent the actual temp very accurately. let me know what some of you guys are running for piece of mind. much appreciated!

    A buddy in El Paso had a temp gauge on his GS1100. He said it was more of a distraction than anything. He kept looking at it getting worried while riding.

    With all the posts about riding in hot weather, I can't recall anybody reporting any mechanical problems due to heat.

      The GS1000S has an oil temp gauge, the one thing I learned from it was how long it took the engine to really warm up, especially in cooler weather. Oh, and to not worry about oil temp.

        But a buddy of mine runs the Yoshimura Pro-Gress 1 temp/volt meter and that looks cool !
        I like the voltmeter function of it, too.
        Would look great on your restomod i think
        Expensive, and the temp sensor is a separate item.

          Using a KUS marine oil temp gauge on the 850. It's a 2" gauge though, so hard to find a space for it on a naked bike, unless you find a pod for the bars, etc.
          I'm quite happy seeing how the oil temp varies and useful information like oil temp and especially voltage on these things is definitely nice to have.
          I use a sensor screwed into an adaptor plug at the rear oil gallery.

            How long does it take?

            I have wondered how long I can let the bike idle in these temperatures (its usually around 5 degrees c/ 41 farenheit).

            But if the bike is anywhere near as cold as me, I think its not having issues.

              20-40 minutes, depend on air temp.

                  There's no reason to, but I can't see it hurting anything
