What goes in this silver box on 1982 GS1100G VIN Label?

Can anyone tell me what goes in that last box after 1100G? It's not visible on the remains of mine. I think it may be a C as the year code for 1982 is a C

I see online for various Suzuki's that it's an F or a K which also follows their year code..... I'm not sure what the letter signifies. It's different on my skunk but I think the year code only came in at 1980.

    Thanks!

    Not a C. C is for 1978. 1982 would be a Z.

If you're confirming it's a year code then it must be a C. It's in the VIN, the 10th digit. I think that started in 80

I found some info here. Also on the Engine number code which I'm going to print & take with me today

        My 82 GS1100G has a "Z" right there.

83 Honda VT500FT Ascot (three of them)
        81 GS650G for the wife.
82 Suzuki GS850GL Bought it 3 times, sold it twice, then traded for a nice 82 GS1100G AND a 93 Honda 750 Nighthawk, even WOW!

Yep, my '83 has a "D" there so it must be year code.

That's weird.. I wonder why the difference in 82 between C & Z? I wonder if the ones with Z also have Z as the 10th Vin digit. Regardless for my purposes it worked, the guy didn't pay any attention to it anyway!

Not sure that any digits in the VIN have any relationship to that year code box.

The 10th digit on my Vin for 82 is a C. But I know it a Z code from Suzuki

On the 1100G's, I think the C stands for cool.

Direct from a VIN decoder site: In the 10th position, you'll see a letter indicating the model year. The letters from B to Y correspond to the model years 1981 to 2000

So I guess the governmental model year letters don't jive up with the letters Suzuki uses for it's year designations.

Nope. VIN standards trump manufacturers code designations.
