I acquired a 1979 GS750 for free about a year ago as a parts bike for my 1982 GS750T, but I've had better luck at my local bike graveyard for parts than this bike. I got it from a guy who wanted to make a cafe but didn't get very far before he lost interest and had to move. Now its just taking up space in my basement and I am wondering what is the proper way of passing this bike along. The bike is missing the the front and rear lights, wiring harness, front fender, and the frame has been cut and had pieces welded on for the cafe conversion. I don't have a title, nor a bill of sale but I still have the contact of the guy that had (and lost) the title. Should it be parted out? Sold/gave away to someone willing to undergo the restoration? Donated to a bike yard? Opinions appreciated! I feel bad about junking an old bike but as its a 2 valve and the frame would have to have a lot of work I'm not super interested in it.

What is the right thing to do with a parts bike?
Hello all,
I acquired a 1979 GS750 for free about a year ago as a parts bike for my 1982 GS750T, but I've had better luck at my local bike graveyard for parts than this bike. I feel bad about junking an old bike but as its a 2 valve and the frame would have to have a lot of work I'm not super interested in it.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parting it out will yeild the most coin, but takes a long time. You'll spend more time taking, posting pics, communicating, packing, shipping etc, than it may be worth to you. If it were me i'd place an ad on Craigslist in the parts for sale section and hopefully get a couple hundred bucks for it while it still rolls. If it was free, you don't have much to lose.

May put it in the parts for sale section on this site just to feel for response. List it as "79" GS750 parts & parts bike. Folks could ask if your parts bike had the part they needed, without you needing to list all the parts. A buddy of mine has a "79" GS750 that he bought new. If you had a good set of exhaust, he may be interested.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. ZL600 Eliminator, 1999 Bandit 1200S, 2005 Bandit 1200S, 2000 Kaw. ZRX 1100
