New Member & 1st Time GS Owner

    Hello Everyone,

I recently bought a GS1000 as a project bike. It sat for 20 years under a tarp & only cost me $100. The title says that it is a '79, but the fairing that came with it makes think that it might be an '80. I cannot find any info online about the bike itself. The Manufacturing sticker has all but worn off & Suzuki Powersports USA cannot look up any vin or serial numbers before 1981. I just completed the cleaning the carburetors and I am waiting for the new seals to come in before putting them back together. I will be sanding, stripping, and repainting the bike to its original color (or close to it). I am debating if I should put the fairing back on it or find and install OEM headlamp and turn signals.

The previous owner kept meticulous maintenance notes & other docs on the bike. All his notes showed parts and equipment for GS1000N. I am not sure if this actually the "N" model or the base GS1000.

For those interested the Serial Number / VIN is GS1000-107349 & the engine serial number is GS1000-123862.

Solid front disc and slide-pull carbs make it a 79. The fairing is just a Windjammer V, which could have been fitted any time later.

Looks like a base model GS1000 with the spoke wheels and single front disk brake. Congrats! It will certainly be a labor of love but worth it I think. I had a '78 1000C in college and it was a fantastic machine. Add cleaning the inside of the gas tank to your near-term list of to-dos!
      Previous GS fleet: '78 1000C, '79 750E, '81 650G, '82 1100G, '81 1100E
      Other rides: '77 XS500C, '78 XS1100E

Heck, looks real good for sitting under tarp for 20 yrs. Yep, what they said, there were no spokes, single disc, nor slide carb GS1000's in 1980... Seems a shame you couldn't have negotiated the price and got it a little cheeeper... Keep us updated, this should be interesting.

See below, chassis number 107349 is a GS1000N.
Engine number 123862 is also in the correct range for a GS1000N.
          Great find, a steal !
