Another new owner, here to learn

Hi everyone, signed up because this seems to be the place to be for GS resources and content. Just picked up a 1981 GS750, "L" model I believe, with only a little over 8k on the odometer.

Only paid $500 for it, not even sure if it runs yet but did get it to crank a little on a jumper. It's been sitting for somewhere between 6-10 years according to the woman I bought it from, it was her husbands and he had passed this last July.

Plans are to get it running and riding first, and then to build it out a bit into something cafe inspired but probably not fully embracing that look.

She's definitely a 10 footer, the chain is a rusted mess, the back brake seems to be binding up, there was a mouse nest in the airbox, and the tank looks to be full of something that may have been gasoline at one point. Someone along the line cheaply painted the tank (it used to be red) and the side covers black.

Welcome. Good deal. Hope it came with a title. If not, I’d stop working on it and try to get one.
Looks a little neglected but should clean up nice. All the info you need to get this bike back on the road is in here or on BikeCliffs Website. Link in my signature. If you can’t see my signature, go to the top right of the page, pull down your username. My profile. Edit settings. Account tab, make sure you have these checked. You can create your own signature from here too. Recommended.

Thanks! Yes, was able to transfer the title. That was a deal-breaker for me.

Ah, I see you ride a Tiger, and a Bonnie too. Being from Reading, I assume Hermy’s is your dealer. I got my Tiger there last Fall.

I did get the Speedmaster from them, but Martin Moto is actually closer and they sell Triumphs as well. The Tiger I just got last fall, and used off FB marketplace.
