Hello, I've often come to this site before and after I got my first motorcycle. Last Summer I finally stepped up and took the courses for my license and I gotta say I so wish I had done it sooner. Two wheels every day for long as I can. I love to tinker with things and was looking for an old car with a carburetor. One I could work on but still drive around and enjoy. So when I got my license I thought what better way to satisfy my love of wrenching than to get an older bike. I found one of my locals here had an older Suzuki to sell and I thought I would check it out. It was a little rough around the edges, not perfect, could tell it was dropped a couple times but not badly. The tank was black, good shape and seemed like a recent coat of paint. One of the side covers missing and the other cracked with a crudely ziptied on emblem that read GS750T. I had thought he said it was an L model and I had never heard of the T, only the L and E. I did some searching and came across this site which had some info on it and I was quite happy to find out its a little bit of a rare model.
So I rode the bike around the block and decided to buy it. He included a bunch of other stuff, extra seat, sissy bar, rear rack, windshield, extra tank, saddle bags, and best of all a repair manual. I pulled out of my old neighborhood with a huge grin on my face, made a quick left and got it up to speed and couldn't of been happier with the sun beating down and the open air around me. And then...about two miles later I ran out of gas lol. I called him up and asked if he could spare me a gallon and he thankfully obliged. So I was giving the bike another walk around on the side of the road, while the cows in the farm next to me were giving me curious glances, and I was thinking of what I wanted to do with it. I don't like choppers much, cafe' would be cool, but I thought the bike was kinda cafe' styled to begin with and did'nt want to ruin the idea that this is a rare bike so I decided to keep it stock for now and just enjoy riding it. I did find some side covers for it for only $20 (thank you craigslist), painted em black, took off the windshield and accesories to give it a more stock look. I put on a stainless brake line (I do not trust 30 year old rubber), put on some new handlebars towards the end of year and I've been working on it all winter. I'm mostly cleaning and repainting bits and pieces, but I'm also getting a little bit of a cafe' bug so I might be trying a new seat idea with the spare seat pan I have. I'm very much looking forward to riding this year, I'm putting on a new front tire before the season starts along with buying better gear, I ride with a helmet and jacket, but could use better gloves and boots.
Anyway, thats my story. I'm gonna see if I can get pics to load on my first try, if not I'll figure it out later and share stuff as I got along.
