    New GS owner

    Hello All,

    Just wanting to introduce myself. My name's Trevor and I've been riding since 2007. I currently live in central Missouri and will be moving to Louisville KY in a few months. years ago I started off on a CX500 which I rode for a few years before leaving for the Army (it's still in storage in Rhode Island). Back in 2012 I picked up a kawa Z1b that I used as a daily... well this winter I put it under the knife for a much needed overhaul (gonna need all new seals and to go to it's first overbore).
    In the mean time I picked up this GS750E that the previous owner had set up for vintage track days.



    Above is the before picture from the day I brought it home, and I've about finished it's overhaul. It's going to have progressive front and rear springs, a full service, and eventually turn signals (when I get around to it). Everything on the bike has been drilled for safety wire by the last owner. Eventually I'll completely re-do the wiring to stock specs so as to make life a little easier.


    for those interested, here's a picture of my Z1 that's currently being rebuilt.

      Welcome to the site, Trevor.
      Always liked the look of these Rickman fairing.
      Nice GS. was that a recent purchase? One that looked similar was just on Craigslist for cheap money.

        yea I got it from a guy up in ST Louis for a good price... gotta keep myself off craigslist!

          Welcome to the site, nice looking bikes, both of them. Ya I remember that ad for the 750, anything been done to it engine wise?

              The motor's all stock. I'll likely keep it that way too because I'm interested in the possibility of getting out on the track with it eventually.

                And we're on the road (as of last week)



                So far I've done the following:
                Progressive front and rear shocks
                20wt fork oil
                Rebuilt rear caliper and master
                New brake fluid
                Blinkers
                Horn
                Mirrors

                Now I've just got to put about 20-30 miles on it (with seafoam in the case) and do an oil change.

                I did notice that it doesn't seem to be charging, and after going through the stator papers I'm going to try a polaris R/R to see if that solves the issue. If that doesn't work then I'll recheck the connections and replace the stator... I have no problem throwing parts at this issue as the parts are worth it on their own.

                I absolutely love the feel of the bike, the suspension combined with the riding position makes for really comfortable and confident riding.

                    Dude your bike looks frickin' cool I love your Z1 too!

                    Here's a link that is a good guide to figuring out the charging issue:
                    Technical Info posts that are deemed to be important or popular will be placed here for easier access. If you feel a post should be moved from the Technical Info forum to here then PM the Administrator with your request.


                    Might also be a burnt out leg in the Stator. I have replaced so many electrical bits on GS's. Just comes with the love for these machines.

                    Also be sure you valve clearances are in check. Hate for you to do all this work then burn a valve out on a ride.
