hi to everyone

just a quick hello from another newbie.My Names Simon

just joined although i've had my gsx550e for the last 12 months and have been reading through the site, it's nice to find a site with friendly and informative people on not like other owners clubs.

i got my gsx550e for Łnout free no charge all i had to do was collect it from a guys garage 12 miles away from home easy with my van. the not so easy bit was loading it up, its been sat in his garage for 12 years i was told it was ridden into the garage when he decided to take off the seat and fuel tank and side panels which is how i collected her. needless to say he can't find said bits anymore and the brakes stop the bike perfectly so well i had to remove them just to move the thing no easy with flat tyres etc...

i've had a look at vin number engine number etc but parts for these are hard to find in england due to alot of local bike breakers shutting down due to EU regs
well as it sits i'm planing on getting her fired up before anything else is started i wanted to put a gsxr front and rear end on her keeping the old looks with modern handling but funds will have to be looked at i'll try and get some pictures up soon. hope the wife won't mind me spending to much time with my new lady Suzi.

Sometimes can just exercize the caliper piston some, push it in, and pump back, a few times, and flush out old fluid, and that will free it up - - mostly - - sometime.
But most likley need to disassemble and clean gunk out of the seals, probably need to rebuild.

And... what specifically is the regulation that effects the supply of used parts....? just curious.

They probably justify shutting the wreckers by claiming, junk yards encourage theft.

Here in the UK, there has been much legislation over the last 20 years or so relating to the disposal of 'controlled waste'. As far as scrapyards and breakers are concerned, this legislation doesn't relate to the various metal parts of a motorcycle. You can do as you wish with these. But it does come into play when disposing of used oil, brake fluid, heavy metals from a battery etc. These things have to be collected and disposed of in the 'appropriate manner' which, of course, costs money. Quite big money, in some cases. So the average back-yard breaker has had to spend a lot of money on the equipment and administration which can demonstrate that he is compliant, or go out of business. Unfortunately, the latter is common.

I lived in east Anglia from 1989 to 1993 and experienced some dismal weather. Heck, I learned to live there and by the time I had to trasfer, I was use to the culture.

Anyway, welcome spiderman. Nice bike! Keep the GSR updated with your adventures.

I almost took a teaching job in Scotland at one point. Part of me wishes I had, just for the experience. Now, doing so is essentially an impossibility.

I married a Scot from just outside of Glasgow, Coatbridge. Of course her family had moved to Haverhill, Suffolk which is where I met her assigned to RAF Wethersfield.

As it turned out, we visited Scotland and loved it: Edinburgh was great....taking those little black taxis as we pub hopped.

The weather wasn't always dismal. Summers in England during the early 90s was considerably warm. I believe it was so warm, elderly people passed away from the heat.

In any case, don't mean to vere off course. The UK isn't dismal to me so let's hear about this GS then!
