    Newbie here fron Central NY

Hey all newbie here from the Central NY area(Syracuse/finger lakes) Stumbled upon this forum looking at R/R issues on my "new" 1982 Gs 1100G. I look forward to the tech articles and chatting with fellow riders.

I traded for this bike and it has been a blast to ride so far...but has a couple common suzuki problems and i figure i found the right place. So that when the weather gets nice i get a complete season!

Welcome aboard, great looking bike you have there. What are your plans for it? and as you mentioned you'll find anything you could possibly need on this site.

        Thanks!

for right now, get her in perfect running order...and ride away. In the future maybe some work on the tins...it does have some wear and a rust spot or two to clean up. I actually really enjoy the stock look.

        Stuff to do now:
Priority 1 is the charging system
two would be: i have a couple bulbs out in the cluster that are out, the neutral light and the kickstand light and
the brake light doesn't come on with the front brake only with the rear brake

beyond that some cosmetic stuff a little rust on the chrome on the rail on the back of the seat and a spot on the fender and some here and there...probably could use a valve job but seems to run well.

but for a bike that's 6 years older then i am with 25k miles

        i'm happy as a clam(knocks on wood)

Brake light is probably the same problem as mine was. A defective switch at the brake lever on the handlebar. Fortunately an easy and relatively cheap fix. The part is still available from the dealer.

The neutral light may be the bulb but before you go dismantling up front, open the plug to the gear position switch. The tail should come up by the boot on the shaft drive and the plug may be in around the top of the airbox. Ground each of the wires coming back from the display to check that the bulbs work. Generally the neutral is a solid royal blue. If they are all ok the problem may be that a contact in the switch by the shifter spindle is dirty. The screws for it are probably JIS not Phillips and will chew up easily if the wrong tool is used.

I had that problem, and it was indeed crud on the connection. Be careful taking it apart. A tiny metal contact and spring are inside will likely fall out. They are really easy to lose.
