Wow leon. That bike is just immaculate. Kudos.

The frame tag on the neck says the bike is a GS1100GLD and it was born 10/82. So is it an 82 or an 83? I know car makers build next year's model waaaay bofore the year they are labeled to be so I don't know.

You guys have made an impression on me with such kind words on the condition of the bike so I'm gonna start cleaning it up and colleting parts for next winters project. Right now I'm ready to ride the rubber off this smile machine. WOOHOO!!!

I'm a few miles West of Murray, 20 minutes from the Tennessee State line.
        sigpic2002 KLR650 Ugly but fun!
2001 KLR650 too pretty to get dirty

Life is a balancing act, enjoy every day, "later" will come sooner than you think. Denying yourself joy now betting you will have health and money to enjoy life later is a bad bet.

          Thanks.
The "D", in the GLD denotes it as an 83.

Thanks for clearing up the year Leon. I figured you were right after the paint scheme comment but then was confused by the data plate.

Occasionally, the year it gets registered doesn't align with the model year. So it's legally an '82 if the title says so, but for all purposes Suzuki, it's an '83. Well, not really an '83, it's a D.

That theory doesn't hold water, because my 82 was still new, in the shipping crate in 1985, prior to me buying it from the dealer.
So that would have been it's first year of being registered, making my 82, an 85?
I don't think so. It has always been registered as an 82, in all 3 states I have lived in.

Yeah, I should have said the year the title was issued, not the year it was registered.

Welcome to the forum. i was born in Owensboro and grew up on the Indiana side (Evansville). I will second what others have said. You have a very nice looking bike that is going to turn heads as is. A 30+ year old bike that looks showroom new is much more rare and gets more attention than just another old motorcycle that someone has chopped and/or painted up. Shine it up and take it to a couple of "bike nights"; you'll see what I'm talking about.

Given your location you do not have much excuse for not making the Tina Wasserot ride in Bedford in June.

In fact I ride through your county and cross the bridge at Hawesville on my way up from Florida most years.
                      ...
Believe in truth. To abandon fact is to abandon freedom.

To confirm what others have said:
                        GLD
THe D indicates an 83 model (Z would be 82).
G is shaft drive. L is the cruiser-SteppedSeat-MoreChrome-SmallerTank-LeadingAxleFork model.

                        Really nice fairly stock bike.
Hack it up and help raise the value of the few remaining survivors.
