I just picked up one of my dream bikes, an all original GS1150ES. It sat in storage for the last 20 years and has less than 7,000 original miles on it. It still has the original exhaust! It's in great shape and will need very little to get in road worthy again. But I do have a question concerning the year; I know this bike was only made in 1984 and 1985 but the title says it's a 1982. I checked the VIN on the title compared to the VIN on the frame and engine and they match up but I'd really like to know the exact year my bike is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi all,

Welcome from another 1150 owner. I've read that a few California bikes in 84 came titled as 83s to avoid smog regulations, but haven't heard of that for an 82. I'm far from an expert on the subject though. Suzuki egine #s typically don't match the frame number.
I'd love to see some pics of the bike.
Title question aside, there were 2 very different paint schemes between the 2 years available in red or blue. The one in my signature pic is the 85 paint.Last edited by dorkburger; 05-08-2016, 02:33 PM.sigpic

Thanks for the welcome. What do you know about the Lockhart fairings? I thought it was a decal the previous owner put on

They were an aftermarket piece. There doesn't seem to be many around. Non US bikes got a factory version of the same. Personally, I like the look, but it complicates oil changes, especially since I have a Yoshimura exhaust that requires me to remove the oil cooler to be able to remove the oil filter.sigpic
