    1983 gs750es

    Hey guys

New to the forum, been working on Honda's all winter. Just bought back a 1983 GS750ES that my dad owned about 20 years ago. I remember the bike when I was a kid, so it's really neat that its back and now I can enjoy it too. The previous owner took excellent care of it.. the pics speak for themselves. Only about 19,000kms (12,000 miles) on it. The bike hasn't ran for about 5-6 years, so we are going to get all maintenance work done before firing it up.

been reading the forum quite a bit over the past couple days, and it's been very helpful. I ordered the carb O-rings from Robert already, and some OEM maintenance items from Partzilla. Hopefully she'll be on the road in a month or so. As for tires, looking into the shinko 712's.. anyone with first hard experience?

    Cheers

Welcome. Nice looking ride. Always cool when a family bike comes home.

Nice 750ESAs to doing Shinko 712's they don't come in a 16 inch front. Shinko does make a front/rear 16 the SR735 https://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/shi...iser-tire.html .It is however an S rated tire.Have one on my 85 750EF,can't really say anything bad about it but somehow I just don't really trust it.Still wish we spent some extra $$ on Avon Roadriders.

I have Sport Demons on my GS700ES (same bike as yours with a shorter stroked motor) and love them.

What size tire is on the front? It looks really big, but it could just be the perspective from the camera angle. You want to go with a 100/90/16 on the front and a 130/90/17 in the rear.

Hmmmmmm...I always thought that Suzuki under sized the front and that a 110/90 /16 was a better size for the bike. The original 120/9017 rear was under sized to IMO making the 130 a good choice. The limited tire choice for the 16 front is a PITA.I commute my EF in the summer so the short lived Sport Demons don't really work for me
Edit:Looked at the OP's pic, yeah that tire does look big, tread looks like an older Pirelli.

Tires on bike are Pirelli's and they have substantial cracks in them. Pretty sure they are original

Original OEM tires on that bike were Bridgestones. They sucked badly and most people replaced fairly soon after purchasing the bike back in the day.

I've tried a 110 up front, didn't like it, slowed the steering down too much, mitigating the purpose of the 16" front hoop.

I barely had mine about two months and the original front had a quarter sized bubble were the tread had separated. The only tire we had at the dealership i worked at was one for an Interceptor, a 110 i think. Suzuki and Bridgestone wouldn't cover it under warranty either.....
