    Greetings from Seattle

Hey guys, I just picked up a 1980 GS850G a couple months ago and probably have put more miles on it that any other bike I've owned. I love this thing!

I've been stalking the forum for a month now and have already upgraded the Rectifier to an SH-775.. worked right off the bat!

My background is mostly sportbikes, a supermoto and a stripped down Sportster. Being that I wanted to explore all the sites in the PNW, I needed something comfortable for once.. so far so good.

My next upgrade (which I've already seen covered on the site) is the steel braided brake line / pads upgrade.. the front brakes feel a bit spongy.

I have one question that I haven't found a solution for yet.

Front highway pegs. I've seen the cheap clamp-ons that bolt to the engine guard, however, it looks a little goofy having pegs sticking off an engine guard that already sticks out. Plus they're not very sturdy, plus it puts me in an awkward spread eagle pose..

I saw a few pics of a more minimal engine guard (didn't have the crossbar, and it looked a little lower) I was thinking if I had that one, I could put some grip tape on it and use those as highway pegs.. I also saw a picture somewhere of a GS that has a little footrest in the top corner of the existing engine guard.. though it puts the feet a little high..

I'm curious how other people addressed this.

    Thanks!
    Joe

    Welcome aboard, Joe.
Is that a Biltwell helmet? Do you like it?

I'm guessing you saw the pics of the '79 850 I picked up Friday.

I cannot tell you how well they work as far as comfort, but they just clamp on, so if they don't work just resell them. Here is a set on eBay not too far from you, but the guy is on vacation until August 6.

steve- It's actually a really nice and comfortable helmet. (and fits the vintage look . I had the original gringo, but I realized how ridiculous it was not having a visor. The only drawback is no vents... which sucks when it starts to hit 90 degrees plus.

gsrick- that's EXACTLY what I was looking for! Ordered. Thank you!

          ddaniels- thanks!

Here it is with the Viper fairing.
