Just Found a near mint 1978 GS1000C w 8000 miles - bone stock

Greetings all,

in a past life I owned a 1979 GS850G and really enjoyed that bike when I lived near the mountains. Now here in Michigan.

Been bringing various bikes back to life including two 1972 Suzuki Titans (sold the Orange one to Germany) and finishing the green one with 5000 miles on it, love the two strokes but stumbled on this 1978 1st year GS1000 in Maroon (just like my March 1978 Cycle World Rag). 2nd owner had in from 6000 to 8000 miles. Tool kit intact, never down, never abused or modded except for the fuel petcock which has a fuel line sticking out?. Couple small blemishes - a dime sized dent on the front fender (I am sure some body can get this taken care of) and the dash got hit in the middle cracking the housing. Paint, seat, pipes and covers are amazing for a 40 yr old!
Starts right up - slight hiccups here and there, Need to sync it, check timing, but everything works and feels like its 1978! I have a very nice 76 CB750 SS I was planning on keeping (not ready yet) so now I have a quandary, which one to keep? I got the GS plated/Insured today, so I guess I will ride it and see how I like it!

Only thing I don't like so much are the stock Tiller Bars. Would like to install GS1000S bars (or identical spec rise, pull back) and get the shorter cables to match if anyone cares to point me to known Bars/Cable combos that work on this model - Many Thanks, Great Site!

I miss my 78 1000.

Loved the sound of the 2 valve motor and kerker pipe I had on it.

Looks like a nice clean example.

I prefer datona bars, and the stock length cables worked fine.

Yeah nice bike and Daytona or Euro are the bars of choice.

I need a stock clean set for my blue C model build. Should you sell those ones send me a PM please. Emgo ( I believe ) makes a set of bars super close to the S model bars..just that they are 3/4 in ch longer than stock.

Very nice looking bike.

Your pipes are looking a bit blue on cylinders 1,2 & 3 so they maybe a bit lean, also don't forget to check the valves for correct adjustment, manuals are available online on Basscliffs site.

Superbike bend bars are nice. The cables from the 1000S model fit your bike, although I'm not sure if you can get the throttle cables anymore.

Bruce, any chance you could post pictures of the '72 Green and White T500 Titan, my oldest brother bought one of those new when I was a kid, very nice bikes and hard to find now days.

Here is the 72 suzuki titan 500. 72 is the final year of the full power engine and narrow turn signals. 5000 original down to tires. One piston seized in two stroke carbon. Light hone new rings and decarboned everything. Original bore/Pistons. Amazing unrestored condition. Carbs and petcock completely rebuilt. Heads on now. I need to bolt everything back up and do timing/carb setup then it's time to find a home for it. Will likely be one of the best remaining unrestored example in the world. Not cheap but if it's your dream after 46 yrs it will surely be worth it.

Both the GS1000 and the T500 are stunning. Had an orange one way back when.

A T500 was the first full sized motorcycle I ever rode. My Brother's friend bought one and let me ride it when I was no older than 14, in 8th or 9th grade. I short shifted it too much and it loaded up in the first 1/4 mile. It took some kicking but it restarted, and I had fun for about a half hour. I had to go to a couple buddy's houses on it so that there would be witnesses. It was similar to the one posted, but a '69, I think, in metallic gold.
