    New Gs Owner in Colorado

    Hi,

I just purchased my first GS/motorcycle. It's a 1977 gs750b with a gs1000 engine. It's sorta got a cafe esque vibe to it. I'm more of a car guy, and I'm hoping those concepts will translate over to me getting my GS running well. Currently the bike starts easily and idles well, but bogs under heavy application of the throttle. It's got pod filters on the VM carbs, so I'm thinking it's running lean. But I'm really not to sure. Welcome to the forum. Changing these bikes from airbox to pods is something that no one seems to get right the first time. Hope the seller included the old airbox in the package so you can switch back if you choose. I am sure others will chime in soon about pods. Some of the jets have to be changed as well in the carbs. You might want to check out Basscliffs website as well. Some excellent tutorials on there. These are fun bikes to work on and you will soon discover how invaluable this site is. Best of luck.

      Welcome to the funhouse.
As noted, it may not be jetted correctly, or perhaps the carbs are still set up for the previous 750 it had.
      Or both....
      Anyways, good luck and enjoy.

cool lookin with those handlebars! If you're a car-with-carbs-and-point- guy, you'll already have a big cloud of "possibles" to sort through!

No expert me But idling smooth at least indicates it's a common to all cylinders. Fuel supply and spark might be the easiest to check off first? and Pods have filters so maybe these are really dirty or oiled . I've heard they don't have long lifetimes....

          Thanks!

I'm definitely a carb and points sorta car guy. I've been daily driving my factory v8 64 Ranchero since I got my license 2 years ago.

I think ignition system is good. It has new points, plugs and wires. It also has a new petcock and gas seems to be getting to the carbs ok. So I'm pretty sure it's the tune. I have the factory air box so I'll probably put that on soon, but I'm fairly sure it'll need bigger jets.

            Very cool car, asher.
I have only ever seen a couple custom ones. Nice to see a stock one.

I learned to drive in one of those (my dad's '65). Good memories. Love it.
