New Colorado member
Hey everyone. Just picked up a 1977 GS750. The bike has 19k miles and is all stock. Was able to ride the bike 15 miles home. Didn't run great but made it all the way. I bought the bike for $1200 as a winter project bike. Wanna keep it mostly stock. Got the bike home and changed the oil, new plugs and cleaned out the carbs. The bike has 100 mains and 15 idle jets. It has the stock air box and factory exhaust. Got it back together and now it cranks but won't start. Gonna do some reading on here to figure out why before asking any questions. Glad to be a member and looking forward to meeting some other GS guys.

After you re-address the carbs and do them RIGHT, be sure to check valve clearances. Often overlooked, and catastrophic if ignored.

Welcome to the site. 1st order of business is to post pics of your new to you bike. We all love bike pics.
As Steve said, as you are doing the carbs the "right" way, as in a 24 hr. dip in berryman's carb dip, you can at the same time address the valve clearances. Then afterwards, you can do a carb synch and be done with it hopefully.
Mainly, do your required reading before tearing into anything. Makes it a lot easier to do it once and be done with it.
Good luck.Larry

When consulting the magic 8 ball for advice, one must first ask it "will your answers be accurate?"

TNG,
Welcome to GSR.
Do post pics.
IS at least one other Denver area member (but havent seen much of him latley).
Hum... you get the bike from a guy named Tom?
Post in technical section about the "not start". Doesn't seem like what you did would cause that, other than maybe battery faded during the down time.
>>later note.
Okay, see that you have posted in technical section... yah, the "engine smoke" thread.

Welcome!
There are quite a few of us GS'ers in the Denver area... we come and go on the forums but most of us have been around for a while.
Alke46 mentioned checking your valve clearances... fun fact the guy that runs the shim club lives in the Longmont area and is usually happy to help out a new member.
One thing to consider when cleaning your carbs... make sure to clean your gas tank too! You don't want any gunk from your old lines and tank to clog up your freshly cleaned carbs
Cheers!

Rubber lines can also collapse (from Tank to Carb) especially the vacuum line.
Lines can also be connected wrong, usually at the carb end.
Petcocks can fail (but usually open not closed).
Good luck, all the info you'll need is around here somewhere!
