    Modified '83 GS1100E

    I'm back...

After a number of years without a bike, due to my wife's concerns, I came across a modified '83 GS1100E with a built engine. Suffice it to say the bike was set up the way I wanted to go with the last two I had owned; both '82s. So, I went to the mat to make it mine.

It has been converted to a GSX-R 1100 front end and swingarm. The engine has a decked and ported head; it also has a big bore kit; full Dyna ignition, Mikuni Flat Slides and pod filters. A Pingle was added to the tank for fuel delivery and it has a Vance & Hines exhaust giving it an unmistakable roar.

Since I purchased the bike I installed a Renthal handlebar, new grips, new turn signals, a JW Speaker Evolution II LED headlight and a smoke Mohawk windscreen. I'm going to have the carbs gone through, new EBC High Performance brake pads installed and the exhaust header ceramic coated. After that I'll have the bike reshot so the front fender matches the Suzuki red.

I went for a tasteful blend of vintage and modern:

Looks great! Using a GSXR1100 swingarm must require some mods to use 2 shocks instead of the mono. I'm not an expert, but I don't remember seeing this before. It keeps the original look.

I love that style of bike...I don't even mind that it's red!

Thanks everyone; I've had a soft spot for the GS1100E for a long time. Finding one with the mods I always wanted to do was a dream come true. Now I just wish I knew why the pics don't automatically show up. I put them on my website and linked to them like you should and still you have to click them...sorry about that. ~Gene

That is a good looker for sure, and I dig the tasteful upgrades, plus I love black wheels. The 83 1100e is among my favorite GS bikes. Did you mis speak about the swingarm? Looks like an 1100e unit from what I can see.... How good does the windscreen work?

You've had some nice rides in the past...Welcome back!

You're absolutely correct; it is the stock swingarm with a GSX-R wheel... my mistake. The fly screen works well; although I might see if shorter supports are available separately to drop the front closer to the headlight.

My first big Suzuki was an 82 1100. You never really get over those.
