    New guy from Chandler, Arizona

    Hi guys!
    David from AZ here.
Lived in the Phoenix area for 8 years now and happy to finally make it to this forum.
Stated this project in 2002 when I bought the bike from my brother.
He bought it new from a dealer in Del Rio TX while he was stationed there in USAF.
3 donor bikes, countless hours in garage and lots of encouragement from the wife for this:

First ride was yesterday. 80 miles and I'm still smiling ear to ear.
Her last time on the road was 1985.
Still many things to get sorted out but so glad to be here.

      Welcome to GSR.

      Great bike!

"Lot of encouragement from the wife"... to work on the bike .
Do tell me more what that is like.

You do know, don't you, that is quite a collectors model.

Tell us more what you did.

            Thanks for the compliments guys.
Tell you More of what I did?
It would be a 300 page novel! Lol
Started with a total strip down to bare frame and went from there.
Frame was gloss black powder coat.
Engine had 21k on it so had the head rebuilt and did new rings with a light hone.
            New bearings (everything and everywhere).
I think the only thing I have not rebuilt, replaced or improved on is the grab bar on the seat.
And that's only because I ordered a new one from Rocky Mountain.
They came back a week later and said "no stock".
I'm a machinist by trade (38 years) and a mechanic by hobby.

My horn and blinkers still still don't work and there is trouble with the vacuum petcock.
I have but been searching the site for help as electrical is my weak spot.
Could not have done this without the help of Sean at Eastside Performance.
            His painter is unbelievable!

Welcome to the funhouse. Cool on the family history of your cycle. A fine looking S for sure..... Time is a funny thing. When your bike last roamed the streets, mine was brand new. Now they are both old....

Hope your out there riding. Was out through Usery and down old bush highway today and the weather was just perfect! Stopped at Butcher Jones to just take in the lake and it was stunning.

                      Welcome David!

I was stationed at Williams AFB in Chandler from July 1986 until Feb 1989 but was not riding at the time. I'm sure it has changed since I left...there was at least 10 miles of irrigation between Mesa and Chandler when I drove to work. Oh the memories out there at ASU...

Anyway, nice bike! Sounds like you've done a fair share of maintenance on her. Hit up posplayr on electrics as was said.

                      Enjoy your way around here!

Great looking bike. I would address the petcock issue asap, Keep an eye on your oil level and if the oil smells like gas I would no run the bike until you address the issue. Welcome
